Do you at times miss your home country?

I retired to living full time in Thailand just before covid hit. My plans of visiting the USA were broadsided. I miss the roar of my car with 5.7L engine, I miss cruising the countryside, I miss the reclining chairs in the movie theater, I miss the beach vibe in San Diego, I haven't driven coast to coast since I was a teenager and really wanted to do that again.

Yeah - we usually RV the US 3-6 months a year... It's a brilliant, comfortable, private, fun way to explore....

Covid stopped us last year & probably this year.....

My wife loves being in the snow, so m a y b e - towards the end of the year....

Touring like this = yes / sitting static in one place = no....

No otherwise i would go home.

But your from the US, its huge far more to do then in my country. The US has some spectaculair nature.

I guess for you its a choice between girls and nature ????

For me its just getting away from the grey cold small country that is called the Netherlands. If it had not been Thailand it would have been an other tropical place.

I do not miss the US, but I sometimes miss my home there. It is a wonderful location on Lake Superior. But I never miss it enough to get on a plane.

No yet, I just got here, after being stuck in the US for over two years with the pandemic. So give it some time. You know what they say. "absence makes the heart grow fonder" and there are a lot of things to miss in the US and my home state of Florida,  but while I was there I was missing Thailand, so go figure. I think by nature , we forget all the bad, and romanticise all the good we remember. until reality hits.

I had a trip back to Scotland booked for last May, cancelled of course. Brother had already purchased 2 concert tickets for big acts and I had a list of things to do.

Miss my twin brother

Miss real beer

Miss Indian food

Miss rock/blues live music

Miss getting vaccinated (brother Pfizered ages ago).

Fortunately the list of things I don't miss is much longer, and the plus points of being here longer still.

Can't see me ever getting use out of my unredeemable, non refundable British Airways voucher.

I love Oz and will always be an Oz (following my first 21 years in NZ). I read the Oz news every day.

But I don't need or want to live there again, having spent most of my adult life in the bourgeois paradise that is Canberra. OK for short visits to see friends.

I love living here in the sticks with my b/f, and his family at an almost safe distance 40km away. I spend plenty of time each day complaining & feeling irritable, but I don't want to be anywhere else now in my old age.

I miss Groningen robblok but that was a long time ago and I miss proper beer and going to a pub on a cold night but then I could smoke in the pub and didn't have to wear a mask.

How things have changed.  Oh to be in England if only for proper beer and to see my children and grand children.

Children and Grandchildren i get, never got the obsession with beer. But to each his or her own. Also smoking in bars has been outlawed for a while (with good reason).

I really really don't like the cold weather I absolutely hate it. I hate the grey dark skies.

Yes i miss my parents but they visit me in Thailand every year (not last year because of covid)

Not much for me to miss in the Netherlands.

UK? No. I'd rather die than go back. But there's plenty of other places I have lived where I would rather be (stuck here cos of the Pan[dem]ic).

Miss family and friends in the UK. will no doubt visit in a couple of years after all the Corivirus cases are reduced to a reasonable level and Quarantine restrictions are lifted

At this time of the year when the temperature is unbearable in Thailand, I miss home.

I miss the ice cold Guinness, I miss the temperate Irish weather and I miss having a laugh with friends.

Today particularly, I'm a little down in the dumps as one day seems to run into the next. I am 17 years out from retirement, but I don't know how you guys do it. I am definitely not looking forward to those times.

Any way, a cup of coffee, some writing under my belt and hopefully, I will feel a little better.

'May your home always be too small to hold all your friends.'

I love you Ireland. ????

There's a few things I miss, just as there's a few things I miss about some other countries I've spent time in.  BUT if I lived in any one of them, there'd be far more things that I'd miss about Thailand.

I miss going to watch Manchester United play, thats it

Of course. There is absolutely nothing to do here, one of the most boring countries on the planet. if it wasn't for the 'girls' why the heck would a single one of us even be here? For what exactly?? I literally can't think of a single reason.

I miss the pubs, even weatherspoons, Sainsbury's, chip shops, snow in winter and free health care.

I shudder at the thought of returning to the US.
