If you do not wear a helmet while using a motorbike...????????

What a stupid statement, you cannot assess whether on a 2 minute or a 2hour journey whether some Neanderthal in a pickup is going to plough into you whilst arguing with the wife on his phone. This has nothing to do with your assessment of the journey.

You obviously don't have a grip on the thread question.

I have a friend , whose wife was just popping out to 7-11 down the road, thought she did not need to wear a helmet as was only 5 mins away, and fate struck, well a pick up truck, she had head inj

  • Best just concentrate on what you wear and leave others to make their own decisions. It’s their head at the end of the day and their life they are putting at risk.  What is this obsession of people

Alternatively you could learn to drive without falling off.

I've managed to avoid them all for 12 years.

only 2 m/c accidents here in the first 2-3 months.

1) Dog ran out at night ......... lesson learned, watch out for dogs on the side of the road.

2) fell off after a rain storm ....... lesson learned, it's slippery after rain in Thailand.

Learn to drive at the same speed as everyone else, that avoids pickups plowing into you.

If you stop at traffic lights, don't be last, slide up to the front, or between 2 cars.

Learn to be wary at traffic lights and crossings, that avoids being t-boned.

Be aware of the drivers around you.

I read in australia most vehicle accidents happen within 5 km of your home.......so I moved.

results of  research revealed that 52% of drivers were involved in crashes within five minutes of their home, while 77% experienced accidents within 15 miles of their home.

I remember long ago before helmets were compulsory in Australia my cousin visited and was an early adopter of them. He showed me a gouge on the helmet where he had come off and slid on his head (helmet). He was happy that the helmet had saved his head. Not long after he had another accident. Again the helmet saved his head. Unfortunately his helmeted head was about 3 metres away from the rest of his body.

No helmet, nothing to protect = No brain. My staff all were helmets after I have a chat with them for 10 minutes. Even for my bicycle ride I use a helmet. Just this week I saw kids with a adjusted kid helmet. After they removed it you could see they had a Farrang dad.

I split a fiberglass helmet from forehead to neck roll. All that was left was the styrofoam liner, and the chin strap holding it onto my head.

Calling other people stupid who may have a different view to yours or make different decisions shows even less intelligence imo.

I try to avoid calling people stupid.

Having said that, I keenly await your explanation of how someone choosing to ride a scooter without a helmet can be construed as displaying intelligence.

As very bare minimum ALL times - Helmet, gloves, trainers (even when popping 700m down the road to the 7-11).

I think a pair of trousers and a shirt, would help too.

Only use seat belt in my truck going into the city I don't have a seat belt on my bike, knocking about in my truck locally I don't wear a seat belt, my truck is not performance related.

As they say "Up to you"  that's what I like about where I live in Thailand.

You don't seem to be performance related. Even at low speeds you can receive severe injuries. But as you say. It's up to you.????

There is a strong correlation between no helmet and risky driving in that ignoring the helmet law means other driving laws will also be ignored. It also indicates that the rider is incapable of concentrating on the job in hand

risk is well known to be VERY HIGH when riding a motorbike / moped here

possibly highest in the world with around 50 dead here every day .......

mitigation is blindingly obvious : DO as you would back HOME,

avoid bike riding ( convenient & pleasant here, yes I know ) :-

FULL FACE visored Helmet with Jaw Protector, to Western Std.

EVERY time you do ride; those silly open face helmets or lids will not prevent your face / jaw getting smashed & should be illegal.......

full motorbike training with Defensive Driving paramount

max. bike insurance (3rd party claim cover) with local valid driving licence

insist on CAR use for family at all times or Proper Helmets on Bike Short Trips

Personal Accident Family Insurance ( pays for itself often with just one minor spill & hospital visits)

Defensive Driving cannot be stressed high enough :

max. distance between you and all other vehicles

assume worst case driver behaviour at all times

check road surface condition to avoid gravel / sand / oil / water/ potholes

I don't wear a helmet on the scoopi, 13 yrs coming here. Seat belts are for checkpoints. My big bike I wear a helmet along with sturdy long pants and steel toed boots when leaving immediate area. So hot today think I'll stay home and have a few cold ones instead of the beach.

“ head on a swivel” approach; no speeding; maintain bike (brakes/ tyres)

full face helmet with visor down removes need for cloth mask on bike or when doing quick shop / atm type stops !

yes, forgot need for strong shoes & gloves; long pants and long sleeve rain jacket perhaps ; any more and you are into full leathers  ( impractical here except on long road trips); also avoid nightime & highway trips ......

no, I dont..... are you against common sense and facts ? location relevant how ?

only to increase the known risks due to higher volumes of traffic and road hazards......

you have “gone native” have you with no helmet and flip flops on your bike  ?

plenty of those fools around  for sure.........

Great philosophy to have. Too many people nowadays looking outwards at others rather than inwards at what they could do/how they could be better.

But then again some people like to obsess about others and their behaviours.

I find many of these types of people have too much time off their hands and should find a hobby or two to keep them focussed on themself a bit more.

Spot on.  If I see ferlung riding around with no hat on I just feel I couldn't care if they have an accident regardless who is at fault. Most likely the country where they come from the law would say wear a hat and likely the driving is so much better there.

I actually hope the farang DOES have an accident if not wearing a helmet

Then when he does the GoFundMe page, I can tell him where to go!!!!!!!!

Seriously, so many idiots have come to live here..........

The consequences of riding without a helmet extend beyond the rider when an accident occurs.

A minor accident from which one can walk away can turn into a major brain injury for a helmetless rider.....  the consequences impact those who share their life with the rider and those others involved in the accident.
