Tourism Minister Aims to Levy 300-Baht Fee for Visitors
If people are under such tight budgets that $9 is a deal killer, let them go elsewhere. Give Thai hotspots a chance to recover so they're appealing to the people who aren't under a tight budget. Sounds heartless, but it's the reality. I'm a perfect example. I've been to Thailand 18 times in the past 18 months, but I haven't spent as much as one well heeled monger on a 2 week bender. I just look good on the entry statistics. -

Its Happening - Law to Tax Overseas Income Now in Progress
Agree, Mike and maybe wrong but believe most British ex-pats will receive less than the thresholds and if married can claim 60 on your wife but has to be claimed on a dual tax return. On the question of tax forms the 2024 ones if and when end of Oct/Nov but been told from the Tax Office Kanchanaburi / Danmakhamtia I would not need to file one and they stated this a few times. -

Help me understand: Delegating devices to remain online when the grid goes down
Without solar panels ... only leaves a couple options, and none really practical or economical. The battery is the most expensive part of any system. For wee bit more, it would pay to add the inverter & panels. Any back up battery you'll need for an hour or more is going to be pricey. Options would be a full solar system, small 3 or 5kW inverter w/5kWh back up, if conservative. Then they have the solar generators, but they aren't cheap, and already mentions, the ECOFLOW type. Then the ol' gas generators, not a fan of myself. All depends how much you want to spend, how much you'll really need, or if you want to be bothered with being a bit of hands on & maintenance/gas generator. Agree with the advice, just go all in, 3kW or 5kW solar system, with thought of expanding in future. -

Proposal for increased tax on condo purchases
I consider myself fortunate not to have come across him before........or if so conveniently forgotten......... The article he quotes in Khaosod English news dated 31st August has a headline (I haven't put the link as not sure allowed) The so called expert is Dr. Sopon Pornchokchai, president of the Real Estate Research and Valuation Center of the Agency for Real Estate Affairs (AREA) So actually nothing to do with the Thai Tax authorities..........possibly scaremongering just a little bit........... -

Anything from the NY Post in regards to Trump is about as reliable as a GPS in a black hole. That rag is just another Murdoch propaganda rubbish bin. -

Hospital slip up swaps newborns, father demands 200,000 baht
This always used to worry me, then I had my Thai/English baby in a government hospital where all the babies were put in cribs in the same room (about 30 babies). No need to worry in the end, mine was the pink one, all the rest were a creamy brown colour. Horrible thing to happen though, well done dad for noticing the difference! -

How about some easy DIY bacon?
I have the same problem with my sourdough. Must keep trying. Think it is a temperature issue, just too hot at ambient house temperature. So need to alter all the timings of keeping the sourdough ferment alive. Would also love to make bacon & pate but that is for the future. -

He wants to grow tourism, but Thailand cannot handle what it has now. As per the news reports, the tourist destinations are choking with the over development and over building. IMO, this is just a quick cash grab to fund political slush funds. -

Thailand raises alarm on online child sexual harassment surge
Thailand’s National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) raised alarms about the severe impact of sexual harassment on social media on children and young people. A recent social outlook report from the NESDC, released yesterday, indicates that victims of such harassment risk developing a range of social, emotional, and mental health problems, including anxiety and depression. In some cases, these traumas have led to criminal behaviour. ECPAT International, an organisation affiliated with UNICEF, identified Thailand as one of the 25 countries with alarming levels of online sexual harassment against children and youth. This is in line with data from the Royal Thai Police, which reports a significant increase in child sexual abuse cases, rising from 48 in 2017 to 540 last year. The NESDC categorises online sexual harassment against children into three levels. Low-level harassment often involves perpetrators who do not see their actions as harmful, such as making sexually suggestive comments about school-aged children. Moderate-level harassment involves repeated actions intended to cause emotional distress, such as persistent harassment, attempts to humiliate the victims, and invading personal privacy gradually. Severe or high-level harassment includes violent and aggressive actions that cause significant emotional and psychological harm. This level violates sexual abuse laws and includes luring minors into romantic relationships, coercing them into sexual acts, recording these acts without consent, and exploiting the victims by charging people to view these recordings. A UNICEF report from 2022 highlighted that many young people do not know how to seek help if they or their friends experience online sexual abuse. Some do not see themselves as victims, while others are too shy to report it, leading to underreporting of these crimes, according to the NESDC. The NESDC emphasises the need for immediate measures to address this problem. Family members should closely monitor their children’s use of social media, and both the government and communities need to implement stringent measures to punish perpetrators. Education providers and communities must also play a role in educating people about their rights, the risks of online sexual harassment, and the evolving nature of online threats. The NESDC suggests that families should teach their children how to protect personal information, and that education providers should incorporate lessons on dealing with sexual grooming into their curricula, reported Bangkok Post. by Puntid Tantivangphaisal Photo courtesy of Bangkok Post Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-09-17
