Gel-like substance found in 110 bottles of Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine

The Chinese vaccines don't need the sub-arctic controlled temperature chain of the other, more desirable but totally unobtainable vaccines.

Still no reason to be left out in the sun though.

And I thought Sinovac was one of the easier ones to store!

How are they going to get on with Pfizer and the like?

Pfizer is a none starter for anywhere other than Bangkok...I think.

It's probably just the skin whitener the Thai authorities demanded they put in for that "Thai Pretty" look

Yes indeed. Injecting gel into the bloodstream is not a good idea, to put it mildly.

Extremely Cold Storage Caused Gel in Sinovac Vaccine

BANGKOK, June 29 (TNA) – Officials found gel inside 110 vials of Sinovac vaccine for COVID-19 because they were kept in too low temperatures.

FDA deputy secretary-general Dr Surachoke Tangwiwat said he issued a warning on the appropriate storage of vaccine after gel had been detected inside 110 vials of Sinovac vaccine at one non-hospital inoculation station in Bangkok.

Vaccine in the 110 vials was not used and was recalled at once.

So how many of the vaccines have in reality been stored at an inappropriate temperature, and rendered useless, that didn't turn into gel yet.

Very unlikely that it were just 100 vials, but more likely a complete delivery

I did wonder way back when first reading about the handling of vaccines whether Thais would be competent enough to handle controlled temperatures considering they still cant when it comes to food.

Maybe some bleach could help wash it out?

As many as 110 bottles of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine have been found to contain a lump of transparent gel, which did not go away after being shaken.

Frightening thought there is that they may have used it if it had !

ßloody hell......got my Sinovac jab tomorrow.......will look at bottle carefully.

I'm very sorry to write this but it's the truth.

This is typical Chinese quality control.  That is why foreigners usually are in China every step of the way to watch quality control.  And given this is health care, well it's even more critical.

What a shame they can't get this right all these years later.  They haven't learned a thing.

Sounds like birds nest that is said can inhibit influenza infections, but must be red bats nest brand. Anyway this is a big oops!

Stored at inappropriate temperatures? Or Chinese expectoration?

I thought maybe someone was a bit careless with their egg drop soup at lunchtime back at the manufacturing plant???

The new Gel version maybe just what I need. Protection against the nasty Covid and a fix for my knee joint problems.

So, despite all the jokes above, it sounds like the Thais are fessing up to it being their handling practices, at the one subject location, that caused the problem with the vaccines... and not an issue of contamination or mishandling of the vaccines while in China...

Yes. I think that is what happened.

Also, the first time Thai authorities might admit making a mistake.  Mind you, maybe they feel stuck between a rock and a hard place...in mean, I can never think of them daring to criticize China.

I was mulling the same issue... IF it HAD been a China production or handling problem that eventually was discovered here, would the Thai government ever publicly bite the hand that feeds them?  Hmmm.....

If they can make a mess of storing what is the vaccine with the least rigorous requirements, imagine what a mess they could make out of the fancier vaccines requiring far more stringent storage requirements...

Is it a Thai habit to ensure that any control is always turned up to maximum?

They are administered through a needle, not a straw.   And they aren't injected into the bloodstream anyway.

To be fair, the cold storage requirement is a result of eliminating the mercury preservative. So, take your pick. Gel? Or mercury?

Still, do you want it injected, via a needle (if it can get down it), into your body? I would prefer to know why it has jello in it, whether this means it is contaminated, or simply expired and ineffective. Seems sensible to investigate why this happened, and ensure the batch is not used.
