Actually, this is not correct. Worldometers has a problem where it shows only the last report which can even be zero. To see a more accurate view, you need to select 'yesterday' or 'weekly'. Thailand is now 17th.   If, comparing new cases/1M population. Thailand would be even higher.

Now that Bangkok's plans have been published, the provincial health authorities will enact their own plans. Based on the chatter on social media including the  local government health Facebook presence, the most probable outcome in Udon Thani is that a similar lockdown is going to happen.

Last Friday, a major Hong Kong study also found that recipients of the Sinovac jab produced significantly lower levels of antibodies than those who were administered with Pfizer, at a 50.7 per cent efficacy rate in comparison to Pfizer’s 95 per cent mark.https://www.thaienquirer.com/28831/delta-variants-danger-and-new-studies-raises-questions-about-thai-vaccine-program/

PS, Which studies? Sinovac has not released any data and not commenting

First off, you claimed that Sinovac was ineffective in treating the alpha variant. Studies based on large scale inoculations  from Uruguay and Indonesia show in fact that it was very effective in lowering hospitalizations and deaths from  the alpha variant. Where do you get your misinformaton from?

Sinovac, Pfizer/BioNtech COVID-19 vaccines prove highly effective in Uruguay -government

Uruguay on Tuesday released real-world data on the impact of Sinovac Biotech's (SVA.O) COVID-19 vaccine among its population that showed it was over 90% effective in preventing intensive care admissions and deaths.

The shot reduced deaths by 95% and intensive care admissions by 92%, and also showed 61% efficacy in cutting coronavirus infections, the government said.

Indonesia study finds China's Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine effective in medical staff

China's Sinovac Biotech COVID-19 vaccine was 98% effective at preventing death and 96% effective at preventing hospitalisation among a group of inoculated Indonesian medical staff, a study conducted by the country's health ministry has found.

The findings were based on data from 120,000 healthcare workers in Jakarta who had received the vaccine between January and March this year, lead researcher and health official Pandji Dhewantara told a briefing on Wednesday.

Phase 3 trials of the vaccine, called CoronaVac, have produced varying results globally, but Pandji said the study found it also prevented symptomatic COVID-19 in 94% of the group.

https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/indonesia-study-finds-chinas-sinovac-covid-19-vaccine-effective-medical-staff-2021-05-12/

The Hong Kong study you cited was not an epidemiological study at all. So what's your point in bringing it up? It says nothing one way or the other about whether or not the Sinovac vaccine lowers hospitalizations and deaths.

There have as yet been no epidemiological studies released on how well Sinovac protects vaccinated persons afflicted with the Delta variant from hospitalizations and deaths vs. unvaccinated persons. That it doesn't work as well as Biontech, Moderna, and other vaccines isn't in dispute. But your assertion that it doesn't work at all isn't grounded in the facts as currently known.

This is what the UK is doing. If enough people have been vaccinated, it’s the way to go. A big IF in Thailand’s case.

Sad that their dream vacation in the sandbox was ruined.  I am sure they knew this was a possibility, had they read all of the fine print, and then I wonder if travel insurance will cover their losses.....live and learn I guess, when you travel during a pandemic, much like a war you do it at your own peril....

In that article it says about a thousand hotel rooms have been booked for the period Oct to February. So, say, 100 people at 10 nights each.

I thought they said they had to open Phuket now because people were planning/booking their winter holidays now?

doesn’t seem that there is much of either going on. And rightly so. In the current environment with so much changing all the time, who books a holiday months in advance?

I like Thailand and the people and hope they will come out of this for the good.I am not  health expert by no means but as we experienced in Canada a complete lock down for a couple of months is the only way to tackle the virus with only the necessary grocery stores open and masking and social distancing and strict gathering numbers imposed. Then test and high vaccination rates.Good luck to all and hope tourism will return soon.

In Manitoba our last lockdown started in Sept. Our ICU's were overwhelmed until the last week or so. Critical patients were being moved to hospitals in other provinces. Thailand has a long way to go even with a full lockdown.

You didn't mention the huge Chilean epidemiological study but since I know how eager you are to engage with the facts, I'm sharing it with you:

Sinovac’s Vaccine Found Inferior to Pfizer Shot in Chile Study

China’s CoronaVac was 66% effective in preventing Covid among fully vaccinated adults, compared with 93% or the jab made by Pfizer and its partner BioNTech SE.

The research shows both shots protect against severe disease. Sinovac’s inactivated inoculation, given to more than 10 million Chileans, was slightly less effective in preventing hospitalization and deaths than Pfizer’s messenger RNA vaccine, which was administered to fewer than half a million people, according to the  study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

There’s something seriously wrong with the system when people feel the need to queue up all night in the rain in order to get a free Covid-19 test. Imagine the number of cases we would have if mass testing was freely available. Something urgently needs to be done about this.

https://twitter.com/RichardBarrow/status/1413273823449796611

Many people are camping out overnight hoping to get a covid test at Wat Phra Sri Mahathat in the morning. Some are sitting in the rain because there’s not enough shelters. The government is being criticised for making it difficult to get tested.

On top of it, those who were not infected can get it from the others in the queue.

Just imagine if that flight was near full and 200 people were now stuck in alternative quarantine. There would be uproar!

12:30pm Some members of the media have announced that the CCSA has agreed to a form of lockdown which includes curfew and the closing of malls. However, a government spokesperson has said that the meeting is ongoing and please wait as some details leaked are not accurate.
