Australia has the right idea with lockdown as one 90 year old woman has died there. I'm confused by the whole thing. Thailand has more people vaccinated than Australia. Can anyone explain? Few reasons. First up the lockdown in Sydney (one state) is due to positive case numbers in the community. Tipped to possibly rise to 100. Very little if nothing to do with 91 yr old death. As for vaccination numbers. First up Au population is ~ 25million Thailand towards 70. Au also had poor roll out and was compounded by problems with AZ vaccine related to blood clots. BTW Au is now steering away from AZ. In addition and perhaps most important is active case numbers in various states. Some zero cases. Even then it's pretty much in the cities. Many Oz folk would perhaps see vaccination as not necessary. Thailand the opposite. Finally relatively easy for country such as Au to have hard lockdown compared to Thailand. Financial support from gov to name one. I just arrived back home from drive to big C and browse through Home Pro. Bangkok does not have hard lockdown. Nothing like one. Well, that would mean that all 700,000 healthcare workers would have been direct exposed to the virus. Sure they are at a higher risk, but it means not much at all. I hope they get medical staff proper protective gear! Fevers are common. The level of virus in the body rises higher than previously seen during the pandemic. And more people are becoming severely ill within 3 or 4 days. https://www.healthline.com/health-news/the-covid-19-delta-variant-heres-everything-you-need-to-know#What-symptoms-does-the-Delta-variant-cause? That article (and the original NYT article on which it's based) doesn't say that people get severe symptoms 3-4 days after initial Delta infection. It says they are more likely to get severe symptoms 3-4 days after the initial appearance of symptoms than those infected with the Alpha variant. There is no difference in the time between initial infection and the appearance of symptoms. Your remark this morning was that you predicted that cases would start falling as soon as they put restrictions in place; therefore, you were taking credit for having predicted the fall in cases on Sunday. But this makes no sense from a number of perspectives, including that it's still going to take a week to ten days from infection to the appearance of symptoms. And in any case, the restrictions (or most of them) hadn't even taken effect yet when the Sunday cases were counted. 6

anchadian
DEFENSE SPOKESMAN DENIES SOLDIERS FLY TO US FOR MRNA COVID-19 VACCINES BANGKOK — Defense Ministry spokesman Maj Gen Kongcheep Tantravanich denies the ministry has any policy or privilege to fly soldiers to the United States to be vaccinated with mRNA vaccines. The denial made on the phone Monday morning came after some accused a group of soldiers who have been pictured at Suvarnabhumi International Airport check-in counter of flying to the US. Koncheep said 114 army officers who left Thailand late last week were part of the annual Cobra Gold training exercise. “They all have been vaccinated in Thailand and were quarantined upon arrival. None have been given [mRNA] jabs in the United States,” Kongcheep told Khaosod English on the phone Monday morning after the allegations spread online that soldiers were privileged and flew to the US for vaccines. The spokesman said the officers will be in the US until July 28. It comes as many Thais were calling for more effective vaccines, particularly mRNA to protect people against the delta variant of COVID-19 .https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/crimecourtscalamity/2021/07/12/defense-spokesman-denies-soldiers-fly-to-us-for-mrna-covid-19-vaccines/
