No, that was me, and I am not a doom monger. I was thinking the reduction was due to a backlog, but it was not: the reduction is due to hospital capacity issues.

Ah, so it wasn't a backlog, now it's 'hospital capacity issues'.

My point is the same - some people are desperate to see cases rise.

So cases have leveled off, despite the warnings from the doom mongers yesterday  that it was because of a delay from the weekend.

For the second day in a row, the relentless rise in new COVID cases in Thailand again paused on Tuesday with 8,685 new cases and 56 deaths reported, nearly matching yesterday’s 8,656 new case total an

The sad reality is I do not believe the numbers reported are accurate as testing is being limited.  I wonder how much favipiravir they have to send home with folks they want out of the hospitals and to isolate at home for 14 days until they test them again.

The only way out for the current dire straights hospitalisation efforts is to send those with no, or mild symptoms home with meds and for them to call everyday providing the hospital with an update on progress. People have to start being responsible and isolate/quarantine, call it what you want, but there is no way out of this situation unless they start putting their trust and responsibility in those that have been infected.

Heavy fines and jail time could be a deterrent ?

What we have at the moment is a band aid situation, which will only get worse, you can't keep every infected person in hospitals/hospitels, there are those out there in the community that are infected and don't even know it, they are spreading the love so they are contributing to natural herd immunity, remember people die everyday, no stopping that, they are just avoiding the inevitable and causing widespread fear, chaos and financial hardship on communities.

This is not Ebola and the vaccines will eventually arrive and take time to kick in.

Remember our days were numbered from the day we were born, so don't fear death, it's part of life.

Stay safe people.

Not clear why.  Maybe sick people are being routed to hospitals in outer provinces.

And ending up on their statistics...... ? Would be odd as likely tested in Bangkok.

I thought you said that was an illusion!

Nope. You clearly misread my posts.

First, I made the simple observation that hospitals were not at capacity because thousands of new patients were being admitted every day.

Then I made the observation that cramming more patients into hospitals is not sustainable and we are going to get to the point where admissions and discharges are equal. We are now on our way, with reduced numbers of admissions due to capacity.

These are simple and obvious statements but some people here are poor readers.

You are describing the new policy for those who test positive.

More excuses for low cases:

Backlogs, hospital capacity issues, testing kits run out, not enough testing, government doesn't tell the truth.

People need to ask themselves, why are they so desperate for the situation to be worse?

We have glass half full, and glass half empty types... human nature. But nobody (Expat) who is in Thailand would want the situation to be worse. To be caught with one's head in the sand and azz up in the air is not attractive.

With an official positivity rate of 12%, cases are going to rise dramatically. I don’t want to see the number of cases rise, but the reason why official numbers are showing a decline while, in the Real World, infections are increasing, needs to be addressed.

There may be a point when understanding the real course of the epidemic could be extremely important to posters who live in Thailand, ie when to spend big money to secure food and water in anticipation of a heavy lockdown. This is not just for debating points. Some people might be better served leaving the country if this wave turns into a catastrophe.

we need data, and accurate analysis.

They would show up as positive lab tests, but not as hospital admissions in Bangkok. But they would show up in the figures as hospital admissions in another province.

So, no, that does not explain why hospital admissions numbers are lower now. I have to believe that capacity is decreasing rapidly now.

They are doing that already, home isolation is now the policy for cases with no symptoms. The crisis in beds is to do with medium to serious cases, cohort wards, critical care, ICU.

Is the decline in the death count anything to be positive about?  I had assumed death rates would rise, reflecting the increase in infection rates 2-3 weeks earlier.  Do you think we can expect to see the fatality rate continue to decline, or is it just blip, and rates will rise again, due to the very high number of infections in recent days?

Sometimes people refuse to die on schedule.

Southeast Asia reported a record 71,510 new Covid-19 cases on Monday. The tally was higher than Sunday’s 67,221, although the death toll of 1,292 on Monday was lower than the previous day's 1,396. #Asean #COVID19 #TheNationThailand

New Covid cases in Asean at record high as numbers soar in Indonesia

Leaving aside other factors, with this Covid testing the daily is the smallest increment on a chart. So of course it's not going to go straight up anymore than a 5 minute crypto chart goes straight up. But the trend is definitely up bigtime. If you owned Covid stock you certainly wouldn't be selling here...

You can bet that hospitals are busily converting acute care wards into  Covid wards with negative pressure. This means that those requiring an acute care bed for other reasons are going to be in big trouble.

Not sure those waiting for an ICU bed and ventilator would see it the same way,

Death rates are going to be terrible in the next few weeks, unless they can convince people to die ant home, and medical examiners can not get to them before the funeral.

Remarkable similarity to yesterdays figures of 8,656!

8,685 positive cases today with 146 of those from prisons, 56 more deaths.

With the news that Chonburi is putting in place its own semi lockdown and soft curfew its only a matter of time before other provincial governors follow suit and take action rather than waiting for this inept government.

Rolling 7 day average (up to 11th July only) which includes prison cases and bar chart of community cases.

The deaths figure in particular is clearly a temporary pause. The numbers in icu and on ventilators continues to rise, so there will be bad news to come in the days ahead on deaths.

cases? Who knows. The testing picture is so confused right now that the number can be whatever anyone wants it to be.

Low cases. 8685. Nup. Get a grip. Even 100 is too much. This needs to get down to double digits for it to be low and hence controllabe. Having said that what will be your position tomorrow if numbers once again exceed 9,000. This is on the cards. Numbers have dropped only for two days. Which way will the trend line go is something we don't know. With 12% positivity and the exodus from deep red provinces it would be a brave person to say numbers are trending down at this point.

But Germany is doing it, and Now the WHO's poster child for handling Covid, Thailand, is on the verge if mixing Sinovac and AZ. Tell me they are aware the WHO does not approve....

Now that hospital capacity seems to be limiting the official numbers, we may not be seeing higher numbers unless and until new beds are opened up.

Good heavens, who is desperate for the situation to be worse?  If anything, I think most would simply like the truth.  Transparency leads to good decision-making.  Lack of transparency leads to poor judgment.
