The government will pass an emergency decree this week aimed at battling disinformation but critics say the act is open to abuse and could be used to silence dissidents.

According to the government, this emergency decree, emergency order number 27, is meant to suppress harmful information that could cause the public to panic during the coronavirus pandemic.

The government has said that misinformation about its policies have caused undue panic and unwarranted criticism, something it wants to cut down on.

Again, for the thickos that supported the coup; this is what happens when you disregard the democratic process and the rule of law.

Real trouble ahead.

how long before they come for all of us?

Further restrictions on the press and the limited freedom of speech does not bode well.   These guys are fighting to stay in power and they really don't appear to care how they do it.  How far will they go is the next question?

The regime is, in their desperation to forestall criticism, circling back to what they know, outlawing criticism.

Takes one back to the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's on the authoritarian nostalgia tour.

Too bad this sort of repression doesn't work on COVID?

But this guy was not in quarantine?

Much of the misinformation comes from Government sources. Look at the way different Government departments come up with completely different plus the regular u-turns and retractions.

That's that then, it will not be a point of discussion if a snap election is called or at the next general election. Future proofing.

Sad thing is most of the harmful info actually comes from Prayuts mob.

Shutting people up smacks of desperation, a position fully appropriate given their complete and utter mismanagement of not just Covid, but pretty much everything they have done since they stole the country.

If it was completely transparent, I would love to see their approval ratings right now. I suspect the numbers would be going down about the same speed Covid numbers are going up.

It’s okay the doctors and medics are staging a coup armed with lethal syringes. They know they have the majority of the public with them after all they should have been leading the covid battle in the first place. The government officials should worry about getting a booster shot it might just send them all to covid hell.

So the booster jabs will be a cocktail mixture of fun stuff......

Yes, that's how this 'authoritarian' thing works.

"The Ministry of Peace concerns itself with war, the Ministry of Truth with lies, the Ministry of Love with torture and the Ministry of Plenty with starvation. These contradictions are not accidental, nor do they result from ordinary hypocrisy: they are deliberate exercises in doublethink."

Yeah... and WHO is to blame for this. The information coming from the government is so diffuse, that no one can interpret the meaning of it....

Do I have time to put the kettle on?

Oh dear, nothing good can come from this.

Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesperson for the Thai government's Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration, said at a press conference in Bangkok in February: "It doesn't matter if the vaccine comes sooner or later because it has no impact on the Thai people. As we have seen, we use face masks, cloth or surgical, to protect personal safety and hygiene. "

This has never happened with the new law.

Unfortunately for them, the emergency decree can't extend beyond "Thai soil". This type of action does nothing but put "all international eyes" on Thailand and not in a good way. One thing that I laugh to myself about on a daily basis is their arrogance in thinking that the world revolves around Thailand and that they think they can dictate to the rest of world what to do and what to say.

So those of you not on "Thai soil" you know what to do...

Indeed, come on Czar: tell us exactly and unambiguosly what the truth is!

From the full article:

“The new order is very vague,” [...] “The government does not define what kind of information could be deemed as information that is “creating fear amongst the public.”

I will define it for you. Discussion of Sinovac problems and procurement, or why we don't buy US vaccines.
