and you guys were just getting started with those great lockdowns solutions ????

Do they know something we do not?

IMPORTANT: Looks like we will see a cancellation of many flights starting from Wednesday and lasting about two weeks. Bangkok Airways just posted to say they are only flying until 20 July. Exceptions are their Samui-Phuket (return) and special flights under Samui+ #Thailand

Open everything. Hard to get confused.

Several off-topic posts on influenza have been removed.

Also, this is a thread on the day's COVID cases reporting and related issues... not on political protests per se. So I'd encourage posters to be mindful of that in any further commenting here.

Speed things up!!! What do you think this Thailand government has done to slow things down? Order more useless Sinovac from their buddies in China. Blocking the purchase of better vaccines? You dont see this? Sad

Restrictions, Restrictions, Restrictions!  When is the government mantra going to change to Vaccines, Vaccines, Vaccines?  My wife and I have been registered and waiting for almost two months.

If you open everything, they will be motivated to do just that.

It’s the same as if you have rent and food to pay you are motivated to make money.

Open everything. That will force them to focus efforts on vaccinations.

That'll put a stop to the upcoming long weekend break if other airlines follow suit.

Tough to be in charge I admit, but they are doing the exact opposite of what they should.

Unfortunately there is no more room at the inn if they open up everything. Hospitals, Field Hospitals and Hospitels are filled while many folks are still waiting at home for a bed to be put in so they can be treated.  Just saw another family of 6 from Myanmar who are stuck in their residence as they can not find a treatment location and have been waiting for almost a month.  ICU's are filled with over 3k, and over 800 are on ventilators, opening up will exacerbate the situation and is not what this government wants. Getting vaccines in hand will still take over 2 months after they arrive to get them into peoples arms, and therein lies the issue.  No Room and an Overwhelmed and overtaxed Medical community.  So tell us more about how you see it playing out.

what do you know what people want? and how getting that info daily any helpful in any decision your personally take? none,

the stats are for governments to act or strategize, which obviously they can't, people are not even in the picture, the stats are insignificant at this stage to prepare for your future

the info is there if you are looking for it, but for the rest of the population, eventually they will stop looking at it, worse they will look away anything about COVID. Just wait to see it happen.

I love watching news, but eventually during our second lockdowns, millions of TV followers had to turn it off completely, as it was saturated with stats and discussions about COVID. Conflicting information, and solutions etc... completely pointless and most people got tired. Nobody was watching the news anymore.

maybe you are not at this stage yet, but the earlier you switch off from the daily stats, the better you will feel eventually, and that will give you a clearer mind to face this difficult situation, otherwise you will fall into the fear trap that the Thai government will be too happy to setup for you.

Do you notice the title of this thread and the number of posts made today. And yesterday’s thread on the same subject, and the day before, oh, and the day before that and so on and so on. I think there’s a fair chance people are interested in knowing Covid stats.

I want information so that I don’t have to be afraid. The unknown is far more scary. For me at least, I can’t speak for everybody.

I’m afraid that I also disagree that Covid information doesn’t help with personal decision making. People don’t all want to sit in their homes and they need to know what they can and can’t do, what they personally think might be safe and what they may think is not. For example, some might feel that a trip to Central Mall is fine, others might not. Some might change their minds if they receive information on Covid cases.

and I really don’t buy this fear trap that you say the government is setting. I assume that you are aware that the government has been caught decreasing cases by not reporting thousands of prisoner cases in prisons, for weeks on end, and many would say that every day they deliberately keep cases, and deaths, low by not reporting them. Why would they do that if they want to generate fear?

your concept of daily case numbers constituting government control by fear, isn’t born out by facts.

In response to your final paragraph, what information do you have that makes you think I am scared, don’t have a clear mind, or am about to step into some kind of fantasy “fear trap”? You know nothing about me, not even where I live and yet you make this fantastical assumption. Much like the rest of your post tbh.

if you don’t personally have any interest in Covid case information, I would suggest that you start by not reading this thread each day. It’s all about Covid in Thailand you know.

If only they actioned this over the Songkran period for ALL domestic routes within the Kingdom.

Having said that, would it have made any difference to the infections and deaths we are seeing now?

Not much news coming out of Burma but things look really scary there. No vaccines, no tests, no oxygen, no healthcare, no information. Only the military have healthcare resources. Some are predicting 10-15m deaths.

It certainly would have helped with the alpha variant to do this at Songkran.

A quicker and more effective response in late May to the delta variant found would have also helped.

Is it correct that numbers in Bangkok are declining? Presumably the rates per province will be published later.

Perhaps, if combined with aggressive vaccination numbers. We will never know.

And what do you think is happening while all these people “wait at home” in close quarters? You are describing the ideal conditions for the vaccine to spread with your own argument.

But as demonstrated but your own experience lateral flow test do not work well in the initial stages of infection and also at the trailing end.

False negatives are common in theses periods. Meaning people will still go out believing they are negative. That is why they are not widely used.

I tested negative with both the official PCR test and the LFT. They are very widely used in the UK and are reasonably accurate.

You missed the point, open everything. What are you going to do with the overflowing hospitals, no ICU's available, no ventilators, 100's of deaths if not 1000's daily. Economy shattered, far worse than it already is.

Open everything, yea great idea.

I don’t think you are correct. If everyone were to wait at home, the virus would spread in those households that have an infected member, but would not progress to those households that are uninfected. Do it for long enough, the virus loses its momentum.

of course, that’s in a perfect world. In reality 100% of people can’t stay at home ALL the time. So even with a shelter in home order, there is still some virus spread. But no where near as much as when people mix in big groups. I think there have been quite a few studies to show that big groups of people cause viruses to spread quickly.

It is obvious the vaccination number is low.

lockdown measures are just too late. and never a quick solution. The effect of lockdown  or preventing people mobility does not show result for at least 3-5 weeks of continuing isolation.

It will impossible to keep the people home for much of that time. They will need to close all schools, stop public transportation ,  street vendors, and government offices and much more...It is funny to read that official in the government will study how other countries managed during the lockdown. The answer is not pleasant.. The US was officially closed for 120 days. one barely can get enough food to buy.

Instead of doing door to door testing, they should door-to door vaccination until they run  out of vaccine supply

Go figure indeed...

Here, we've got people dying COVID who desperately want vaccines but can't get them.

In the U.S., they've got plenty of available vaccines, and people dying of COVID who have refused to take them.

There's something seriously wrong with that picture.

Why should the US taxpayer bail out Thailand?

Why don't the many Thai billionaires and the proprietor put their hands in their pockets?

The US has already donated vaccines to Thailand at the taxpayer's expense.

To add some clarity to this sad situation, why not add the suicide figures to the covid figures! The MJ team have caused irreparable damage to Thailand and it's future, was anyone held responsibe for the collapse of Thai Airways?  No and there never will be along with these pathetic claims to be ordering vaccines. Good luck people....

Your last five words are part of the problem I am afraid. Otherwise I suspect more vaccinations would have been done by now.
