Is living in a Thai village in the middle of nowhere becoming more appealing now?

With Thailand and the world in turmoil and IMO not likely to ever get back to what it was, I've been thinking that seeing my days out in a Thai village with the wife away from all the pursuing madness is now maybe not such a bad idea. Not sure I fancy the modern and future world too much if I'm honest.

  • Not really, in any village you would not have the amenities you get in the cities. Quality of life would be too poor.

I live in a Village, and I love to wake up and see the Sky There are very few pressures, and living close to a City, things I need are only a Short distance away.

Yeah for sure I'm happy keeping myself isolated I still have my hobbies, my wife is very careful taking care and if I ever get covid it would probably be from her.

What will be will be. ????

I'm not really talking about Covid, just generally.

I've had a decent run, can't complain too much, maybe time to take a back seat and let others go into battle. I've got 2 youngsters and feel sorry for them and fear for their futures in this world now.

Some people put a higher price on being able to live in peace and quiet away from the mayhem of Thai Cities

I'm the sole farang in a very small village in a way-off-the-beaten track rice farming area. I'm not really the village type and previously lived in BKK & Pattaya and a couple of other major cities, but since covid started and I got locked in here I do feel safer. Of course the weak link is someone from outside bringing covid in but there hasn't been any returnees, if in fact there are any locals away in BKK or other provinces.

Quality of life is subjective. You may consider facilities important but I consider a healthy environment more so

Ok, but this is NOT essentially about Covid, i's what will be left of the world and all the hassles in the future.

And what quality of life is going to be left in the civilised world and how much hassle will it be?

We are in a village on the outskirts on Bangkok, still pretty rural but within easy striking distance of the Big Mango.

It's not going to stay that way forever but our (ok Madam's) logic is that as we age the amenities will get closer. Not really such a daft idea.

Never in a million years. Divorced my ex-wife over this. Her parents even bought us a house (with their money) to live close to them. And this was a good village, near Surat Thani, rich with fruits and rubber trees. I got a divorce instead.

BTW, I know a pretty girl in her 30's with a pig farm who just quit her 80,000 a month job to help the family. Money is better. She is also very single. All yours if you wanna live that life.

And as Bangkok metropolitan area enlarges as it naturally will so will the environmental pollution increase and get closer to you.

She's right and it's already happening, my wife's village really is in the boonies in Isaan and now have a proper Tesco Lotus within 20 mins. Coffee shops opening, etc.

But is there really much to do in BKK? I mean what do you do anyway, and it's always too damned hot and too much hassle to get anywhere anyway.

If I've been in a Issan village for 5 days it means I've been dead for 2. Three days is about all I can take before I need get back to modern life.

30km from the big city, 13km to nearest 7-11, 1 km to nearest beer shop, 1Gb/s internet, not many kids around, not much smoke.

I am quite content where I am.

Ok . Sensible question now. List 5 things that you consider is modern life for you and then list 5 different things you can not do in your village.

Yes, in the city. So you also think living in a village in the middle of nowhere would not be attractive. Like most people you value the ability to do interesting things, buy unusual items, enjoy good entertainment.  And for that you need to be in a city or close to a city.

Living in a village in the middle of nowhere would be boring beyond belief. Whether in Thailand or anywhere else.

Quite a lot more than in any village. If you want quality food you'll have to be in or near a city. If you want the best services in anything you need to be in or near a city. If you want the fastest internet you need to in or near a city. If you want quality entertainment you need to be in or  near a city.

Of course it's a hassle sometimes. But living without hassle would be mindnumbingly tedious.

Totally wrong mate, i live in an Issan village, off the main drag, very quiet now.

Three or so years ago wasnt quiet, was like the wild west, not any more, one of the main culprits is dead, over dose, two others are inside, one for murder, one for dealings.

Now all you hear at night is a few dogs running around outside.

Very quiet, heaven indeed, love it.

Now i am stuck in a wheelchair, not easy to go out, with covid i am not going out anyway.

Bored ? Hell no, having to much fun winding some of you up.????????????????

I've always lived 20-40 miles away from the conveniences of a decent sized city that could handle multiple situations....

We're out about 25k from Chiang Mai now with about 80/100 homes nearby with small supporting mom & pop "stores" nearby.....To me, it's always been the best way to live....

When looking at areas to move we looked at some further out village areas poised on narrow roads or hilly areas, but with few resources close by + I had the feeling that if we took one of our extended trips we'd come home to an empty house, or worse....
