Study shows AZ+mRNA vaccination regimen is as good as two doses of mRNA

An immunogenicity study, conducted in Germany, shows the mixed use of viral vector and mRNA vaccines induces a significantly high level of anti-spike and neutralizing antibodies, close to the level induced by two doses of mRNA vaccine, according to Professor Dr. Manop Pithukpakorn, head of the Excellence Centre for Genomics and Precision Medicine at Siriraj Hospital.

Dr. Manop cited the immunogenicity study, published in the Nature Medicine journal yesterday (Monday), which was a comparative study between two cohorts, one administered with viral vector AstraZeneca (AZ) and one of the two mRNA vaccines, Pfizer or Moderna, and another administered with two doses of Pfizer or Moderna. The two doses of mRNA vaccine were administered four weeks apart, while the AZ and mRNA doses were administered 11 weeks apart.

Measurement of humoral and cellular immunity in the two cohorts shows the AZ-mRNA mixed use of vaccines induces both anti-spike and neutralizing antibodies at a level which is ten times that of the AZ-AZ regimen and up to the level induced by the mRNA-mRNA regimen.

Has it gone through the process of approval such a peer review?

Nature Medicine is a peer reviewed journal.

interesting but as AZ - AZ gives near or actual 100% (?) Protection from Death & Hospital for all Variants, the ten fold increase in antibodies from AZ - MRNA is relevant only for reduced symptoms, if you catch it after being fully vaxed ?

Mot being a medical researcher I have no idea what is correctly peer reviewed and rigorously challenged. Happy to have such an expert here on what ever this un-peer reviewed site is (formally known as Thai-Visa)

I've had this and it's not recognized by most countries.  ????  Not that I"m going anywhere anyways.

Frankly, I've had two doses of Japanese Encephalitis that were different and I had no issues from it.  No issues from this either.  It was an act of desperation on my part because I didn't want to get long covid.

If my penis falls off I'll let you all know.

All one can do is roll the dice of life and "it is what it is", whether it is meant to be or not. Being scared of being vaccinated with peer reviewed and studied vaccines and combinations is only for the timid.  I have gone over this with my Daughter who is a nurse practitioner in a Covid ICU ward.  She has also done research and she herself has been vaccinated with Moderna. She believes, based upon the information she has read and discussed with the doctors she works with that the combination can be highly successful with assisting the immune system to produce the needed antibodies to fight off infection even with the Delta variant that they are now seeing in the US as well as the rest of the world.  True the AZ vaccine is not used stateside, but it is what Angela Merkle and others in Germany were initially vaccinated with and then had the MRNA vaccine as a second jab.  In 8 weeks when I am due for a second Jab I will review the issue again and see if anything new has popped up.

So what is the differential  between two doses of  AZ and two doses of mRNA  vaccine in demonstrated  overall efficacy ?

Which vaccine is more accessible currently?

Which vaccine/s are  being marketed  at profit versus production cost?

Which vaccine/s have been contractually ordered, supplied , paid for, stockpiled  and pending use-by redundancy ?

Is there a battle ongoing  using human lives to establish superior market share ?

Is the study paid by Pfizer?

There was this Thai guy (Boon or something), the MD of Thai Thonburi Healthcare who said Pfizer is better but his motivation was monetary rather than scientific.

His shares skyrocketed overnight.

You are the one who raised the subject of peer reviewing.

Google Nature Review and find out it’s credentials for yourself, it’s not difficult.

Peer review doesn't mean anything if most of the peers are from the same group. To be meaningful , it has to be international from a lot of countries and not just the western countries supporting Pfizer.

And when do we get to know stuff like, oh I don’t know, if the vaccines will have severe health impacts down the line? Oh we can’t talk about that, right? Because nobody can disprove it yet so it’s not true, wait.

There's no mechanism by which these vaccines could cause severe health impacts down the line. Everything that's injected is out of the body within a month. If you want to believe anti-vaxx nonsense and see how things go for you in a Thai field hospital (If you're one of the lucky ones who get admitted) go ahead. Nobody is forcing you to get the vaccine.

Note the word superiority - not "as good as".

A number of countries have gone for this combination of vaccines.

Unfortunately for those wishing to travel by air, I don’t think many of these mixed vaccine regimens are widely accepted or at all

Then don't get it.

Anti-tax movement has had the same mantra since it's inception.  Nobody cares if you get it or your don't but you.

At this point yes.  They may change their minds or not.

Frankly nobody is really travelling right now anyways.  Think about your health first and make your decision accordingly.

I should write though that there is a small number going to Thailand on a vacation that are travelling right now.  I wouldn't go there right now if everything was for free.

It's logic,  as sex with a brunette followed by sex with a blonde is twice as fulfilling as sex twice with the brunette.

So somebody told me.

No studies like this, yet, but a number of researchers and Doctors have recommended following the JJ vaccination with a booster of mRNA vaccine.

Advantage there is the JJ vaccine is accepted for travel, so you will not get caught out if doubling up.

Off-topic posts and replies removed along with baiting, bickering posts.

Seems like they're grasping at straws, a study in Thailand or anywhere which shows that any potential cocktail works.

Sinovac 2x, Sinovac 2x+AZ, Sinovac 2x +mRNA, Sinivac + AZ, AZ 1x, AZ 2x, AZ 2x at 4/6/8/10/12/16/30 months, AZ+mRNA, AZ 2x +mRNA all have been put forth by "leading experts" here so far.

But of course there are no mRNA vaccines here yet. Yes, thanks to the U.S.A. 1.5 mm Pfizer will arrive tomorrow.

All this talk by experts is useless, except for confusing the public.

Trying to make up for past mistakes - choosing the wrong vaccines, and/or not being able to get enough - by making more mistakes is, well, loony.

Get the vaccines, administer them in dosages proven to date to work at, and for which they've been (emergency) authorized.

You meant that you will be able to turn it into wine now didn't you.

The mixing of the Adenovirus vaccines and MRNA vaccines has been an item that has been looked at by many in the scientific community.  I liken it to mixing Codeine with Ibuprofen to create a medicine, or in this case a vaccine that works better and increases the efficacy.
