PHUKET: A 23-year-old man escaped serious injury this morning (Aug 21) after he fell asleep at the wheel of his delivery pickup truck, which veered into a guardrail that sheared into the driver’s door.

 

Maj Sorathip Chukaew of the Tha Chatchai Police was notified of the accident, on Thepkasattri Rd northbound in Moo 1, Mai Khao, at 8:50am.

 

Maj Sorathip along with fellow officers and rescue workers from the Mai Khao Tambon Administrative Organisation (OrBorTor) arrived at the scene to find the pickup by the side of the road, still impaled by the guardrail.

What is a Police Major doing at a mundane traffic bingle?

 

Elsewhere, a maximum of two Constables, or Patrol officers but often just one, and job done.

 

Rhetorical TiT question, right -on to the next oddity...

No story here; falling asleep at the wheel is normal in Thailand, they do it every day !

Can not see where Police Major was at traffic bingle. The article says police major was notified of bingle?.

How selfish now my delivery will be even later ???? To be fair these delivery drivers are now overworked, and driving even more like loonies. Had a Kerry delivery the other day at 6.45pm.

It's difficult to tell as you can't see what's behind the pickup further along the road but it may be that he hit the end of the barrier. The other possibility might be the barrier came loose or broke. It shouldn't do but it's possible.

 

Many years ago my headlight was smashed when a car on the opposite carriageway hit the barrier and the washer from the bolt fixing hit my lights. I didn't know until I got home and noticed the light was gone with the washer was still in it.
