talahtnut
Walking on the road, use your brain, like you do on a crowded pavement. Don't rely on laws to protect you, and don't thump someones vehicle, especially a Thai's one.

My wife asked me many times not to use common words as F. ck e.g. There are too many violent and drugged Thai men outside or driving, hands on a gun or a knife or machete. koele2
Over here, people who walk or bike are poorer than ones with cars, so they don’t matter. When walking in Thailand, you must understand that and look out for yourself. It’s the mentality here. That being said, attacking an 80 year old man from behind is not something to be proud of. It, along with "bonnet," are foreign words to most Americans. We can guess the meanings in their contexts but they are called "cross walk" and "hood." Cheers. Charlie Halliday
What a cowardly vicious thing to do to an obviously very old defenseless man. Hopefully karma comes back and makes his life a misery. Sick of Thai men who assault elderly foreigners and women. Shameful savages.

Aussieroaming
Imagine an 80 year old Thai getting kicked from behind in Australia, most Aussies would be pretty upset. Not happy to be 80 years old and nearly run down on a pedestrian crossing that is there for pedestrians to use and at which in any civilised and polite country the driver would stop. That is what they are there for, but most Thais are too stupid to know or they don't care in the Land Of Me First. And not happy to be 80 years old and kicked to the ground. My wife, on her first trip to the UK, was stunned when the first car, or certainly the second, stopped to let her cross. Something she'd never experienced in her own country. You aren't Thai by any chance are you? If you are then I accept that you just don't know any better or how You First instead of Me First operates in civilised countries. 1
EricTh
I have said many times in this forum and yet people still don't listen. In all countries in Asia except Japan, people don't stop for you at Zebra crossing. You cross Zebra crossing only when there's no incoming car. There are many previous incidents in Thailand regarding foreigners not knowing Thai laws. Don't use western laws in Asia. Thai people don't know western laws. Been there... nearly done that... I was crossing Ekammai rd (in Bangkok) with my Son who was about 5 at the time. Car’s had actually stopped for us to cross on the northbound side, as my Son and I got to the middle the car on the southbound side also stopped, very nice... but as we walked across a taxi switched to the inside lane and screamed past... Head on a swivel while crossing the road in Thailand (especially with a child in hand) I saw the taxi approaching so didn’t step out any further. I shouted as the taxi passed, the taxi hit the brakes so hard he screeched to a halt drawing a lot of attention. As my son and I reached the pavement the taxi driver was already getting out of his taxi. ‘Here we go I thought’.... wondering what to do next. I was with a 5 year old, I couldn’t exactly run off !!.... The taxi driver got out, left his car door open. I just stood there on the side of the road with my son, I didn’t want to turn my back and walk off as I figured this guy might run towards me (he was about 7 m away). Scenarios ran through my head... I figured if he steps towards me and comes near there is only one option, full on aggression and hope I drop him quickly. I’m not sure what else I could have done, my only concern was ensuring he didn’t come near my son. Fortunately it didn’t come to that. The taxi driver, a lot smaller than I took the wiser option and got back in his taxi and drove off. With hindsight I realised he could have had a knife or a machete etc and I could have got seriously injured. There are some very unhinged people out there.

Then please cross whenever you like at a zebra crossing in the future. We will see what happens in a serious accident. Show me a person who was fined 500 baht for not stopping at a zebra crossing with no traffic lights. So are you gambling your life versus a '500 baht fine' for that other person?
