Joe Ferrari case: Death of suspect was by asphyxiation, not drug overdose

A full autopsy conducted by a pathologist at Sawan Pracharak Hospital in Nakhon Sawan has determined that Jirapong Thanaphat, 24, died from asphyxiation after six layers of plastic bags were wrapped tightly round his head.

The incident happened while Jirapong - in after a drugs bust - was being interrogated by seven officers of the Muang district force led by Pol Col Thitisan Utthanapol.

The man known as Chief Joe or Joe Ferrari because of his collection of dozens of luxury cars sits in jail ordered held for an initial period of 12 days with his subordinates.

Yesterday a press conference was held after the death in custody.

It was attended by the provincial police commander Pol Maj-Gen Rapeepong Sukphaibun and assistant prosecutor Sompong Yenkaew along with Dr Natthapong Tulaphan of Sawan Pracharak Hospital.

Sompong pulled no punches in his assessment of the evidence that will be presented to the court saying that the CCTV and autopsy evidence presented a clear case of murder with intent, murder in custody.

This was a clear case of mistakes in procedure that went seriously wrong and was clearly illegal. It had nothing to do with obtaining extra information. Just two bags around the head could kill, he noted - this was five or six.

Dr Natthapong confirmed this saying that a full autopsy revealed six bags were knotted tightly round the head of the victim who could not breathe. He was like this for a full six minutes.

The innermost bag was tightly wrapped around the victim and there was pressure on the larynx.

There were drugs in the body but asphyxiation was the clear cause of death.

No explanation was given in the Daily News story as to why an initial examination of the deceased suggested that drugs were the cause of death, notes ASEAN NOW.

  • Who's to say that the (probably low-quality) drugs he had taken didn't cause his throat to swell when under stress and that was what stopped his oxygen supply!? ???????????? If you think my twist

  • That's a shocker for the Aseannow detectives on here who were adamant that it was manslaughter ! Undeniable murder.

  • He might be worth 15 million dollars but his boss is worth over 100 million dollars.  The police force can be a very lucrative career.  You do have to pay massive amounts for promotions and high level

If you think my twisted idea is daft, wait to see what Joe's defence team come up with, and they will do it with a straight face!

Simple case of Suicide

  • Popular Post

So the first autopsy said he died of a drug overdose.

The second that it was asphyxiation.

I wonder if there will be a third autopsy showing it was suicide?

Joe said they were Glad bags until the video surfaced! Were the plastic bags still on the victim during the autopsy and the Dr happened to  overlooked it?

They couldn't, he had plastic bags over his head.

Just where is the victim’s girlfriend who is a key witness to the murder. I see no attempt by the police to find and protect her. I really fear for her life.

  • Popular Post

Besides the murder charge is anyone ever going to mention how he could afford the house and cars on a police salary? I believe the total value more than 15 million dollars. It seems that this is quite acceptable in the police dept.

I thought I'd read somewhere that the funeral of the victim was very quick.

So his body was kept since early August and only now a full autopsy has been done?

Before the autopsy they always undress the body...

I read that he had been cremated, as is the tradition in Thailand. It does seem odd that the body would still be available for autopsy 3 weeks after the death. Initially, it was not treated as suspicious death.

"Just two bags around the head could kill, he noted - this was five or six."

What a statement. But one plastic bag is enough already...

I wonder which were the mistakes?

Putting the plastic bags on in the first ? Is this standard operation procedure to use one bag, but not six?

Not turning off the camera?

Being caught?

Failure to remove the memory card from the CCTV recorder?

Or wasting plastic bags? When two were only required to achieve same outcome.

No the plastic bags were really there as infection control to stop transmission of Covid19.

Perhaps I should contact the defence team with an alternative reason

Normally here Forensics attend along with the Dr in suspicious events then again I recall there was nothing suspicious about this !

If this fella had a net worth of $15 Million Dollars than its fair to say some paper bag bungs will imminently come into play and the culprit will shortly be sunbathing in Cleethorpes....

He might be worth 15 million dollars but his boss is worth over 100 million dollars.  The police force can be a very lucrative career.  You do have to pay massive amounts for promotions and high level positions.  It seems to work more like an organised crime syndicate rather than a police force.  I doubt he will do any time and he will have a nice nest egg built on murder, theft and corruption.  What a life!

That is just the way of it here.  It won't ever change.

The story is so shocking. Not only that the police killed him. But also the hospital that could find this out issues a death certificate that hides this fact and allows the body to be cremated. At this last autopsy report without corpse now - what else could be the result after the video...

  • Popular Post

Will that autopsy result entice an additional criminal charge of concealing the true cause of death and falsifying an official report? Probably not.

provincial police commander Pol Maj-Gen Rapeepong Sukphaibun

Is this his father-in-law?  Is he the one worth over $100 million USD ?

Joe the policeman has made a public statement on why he thought five extra bags were required .

The way i understood the statement from him was that he wished to be sure that the accused being interrogated would not recognize him . That just does not add up in my mind .

Did anybody else die of a drug overdose in that police station?

They will probably rearrest her on the original drug charges.

Surely he wouldn't have dared ask for a bribe from someone who's gf/fiancee is the daughter of another top cop?

I was thinking the same thing, how many others, I find it highly unlikely this was their first rodeo
