Moderna jabs to reach Thailand from mid-October

Thailand’s acquisition of the highly anticipated Moderna COVID-19 vaccine will see the first batch arriving by mid-October, with deliveries continuing to March 2022, the government confirmed on Thursday.

 

The Thai Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO), together with Zuellig Pharma LTD and the Thailand’s Private Hospital Association (PHA), have worked to secure a total of 1,958,400 million doses of the mRNA vaccine for the country by the end of the year.

 

The organization aims to deliver the first batch of 300,000 around mid-October, according to the Ministry of Public Health.

Two million doses. In a country with a seventy million people . That translates to one in seventy getting fully vaccinated with the Moderna  vaccine.

They have ordered a lot more Pfizer than Moderna.  Also this it just the first order of Moderna.  There is a second order coming next year.

Conflicting October Moderna delivery quantities.  The Enquirer article referenced in this post dated 16 September says::

Read an article from The Nation dated 15 September that says 1.9 million being delivered in mid October::

 

Zuellig Pharma, the distributor and importer of Moderna vaccine, revealed on Wednesday that the manufacturer will be able to deliver the first batch of 1,958,400 doses around mid-October. Thailand will then receive about 300,000 doses per week

Did the delivery quantities change over night? Is it just poor journalism skewing the facts?  Is it 300,000 being delivered or 1.9 million mid October? Confusing to say the least.

If they notify you of a prepaid Moderna appointment—can you delay it if needed?

Did you read the article above?

The part about deliveries continuing till March 2022. Nothing about any deliveries after that. The Gov was supposed to be ordering 5 million shots in earlier reports but Thai Red Cross got a portion of that so this I think this is what is left of deliveries.

9 week is pretty short in my opinion, i would rather wait 6 month for booster and refer Moderna over Pfizer, but we'll wait and see

I only paid half, and if I change my mind and take another one(Pfizer), I've only lost 1200 baht. Actually, I might give it to a friend.

by law yes but you're in Thailand, i wouldn't count on it, eventually you can but it will take year +, by then i'll probably forgot about it ????

I had Sinovac plus AstraZeneca in Chiang Mai last month. I paid a deposit for 2 x Moderna via THG at Lanna Hospital, Chiang Mai back in early July as things were very uncertain regarding vaccinations back then (I am under 60 years old and in good health). 
THG contacted me last week asking me if I want 1 or 2 of my vaccines or none (they are transferable). 
They gave a list of vaccinations/combinations and how long you have to wait before the Moderna booster. 
For Sinovac plus AstraZeneca you have to wait for 3 months (think it must given between 3 and 6 months). 
I intend to get the Moderna booster in December 2021/January 2022 as it is mRNA which Sinovac and AstraZeneca are not. 
Quite a cocktail(!) but I think this will give greater protection. 
I am encouraged by the U.K. using Moderna (and Pfizer) commencing 3rd jabs/boosters in the U.K. yesterday where AstraZeneca has been used as the main vaccine across the 50 million adults vaccinated. 
I also intend to keep the 2nd Moderna shot as a further booster. 
This will hopefully help with International travel as Sinovac plus AstraZeneca are not recognised. 
By that time hopefully other countries e.g. U.K. will recognise my suite of vaccinations as valid.

at first i order those 2 jab of Moderna just for me, since im under 50 and no vaccine was available for me as time pass my wife got 2 jab of AZ and i end up with 2 jab of Sinopharm, to present we can split the Moderna between us for booster, well that's the plan.

Yes. THG will allocate the vaccines from each batch they receive. I registered on 2nd day so should be in first batch they receive. I suspect my dose will go to somebody else registered and I will get a dose from the next batch they receive December/January. 
They had a comprehensive questionnaire sent to everybody who registered and from that can allocate doses based on batch delivery. 
THG seem to be on top of things. 
it could be I can only have one of my reserved shots for reason you state. 
Will have to wait and see. 
I think there are many people in my situation who registered with THG but have subsequently had vaccinations.

This is what they recommended here in uk. 2nd jabs have started but they recommend 6 months after 2nd jab. So mine will be around November then let's see what uk will do about the traffic light system.

I just purchased 1 Moderna, ( 1650 baht ) possibly get the booster in late February.......

I have had Sinovac and AstraZeneca. I am not looking at Moderna as a booster because my country will not accept a combination for return travel. I will take both Moderna shots at the proper interval. I would like to buy a couple for my Thai wife, she has only had two Sinovac jabs.

Except that these vaccines have an expiration date. So I imagine as their expiration looms, they will be sent abroad, unless it turns out that they're needed. Or the govt will reduce demand leaving more production available for other nations.
