Ministries say some schools to reopen November 1st

The education and health ministries said they are ready to open schools for onsite learning.

 

But it still won't be universal from November 1st. It will depend on the area and the number of vaccinations that have been carried out.

 

Further details will have to wait until the CCSA meet next week.

 

There are just ten days to go before the start of the second semester with 50% of secondary pupils now vaccinated, reported PPTV36.

 

Amporn Phinasa said more than 30,000 schools were ready but it would not be all schools in all areas.

 

The reopening of schools would be gradual depending on their area and the number of vaccinations that had been carried out.

 

The CCSA would have the final say next week on who is allowed to open and under what conditions. 

 

Unvaccinated children would still be able to attend school, education minister Trinuch Thienthong confirmed. 

 

Health minister Anutin Charnvirakul said 1.3 million doses of vaccine had been given to children. Four million were eligible in the 12-17 age range.

A friend of mine heads the English department at a Chonburi school. He told me no one will be allowed on campus without proof of vaccination, both students and drivers. Traffic was already backed up every day when parents were dropping off the little cherubs. It will now take the better part of the day dropping them off THEN going through the same thing picking them up.

So......if 'Unvaccinated children would still be able to attend school' what does this mean for kids under the age of 12 that have not had the magic vax? There are a hell of a lot that haven't......With new shiny variants including the new 'Delta Plus' will kids ever get back to school? How many boosters will they need to  be considered 'fully vaccinated'? I hear they are talking of giving 12 - 15 year old boys another Pfizer shot...backtracking on what they said previously.

Back in the UK covid has just blitzed through my grand daughters school, she caught it and has self isolated at home. I expect similar here.

My school -primary- already informed children to provide ATK negative test every day, done the night before, presented at the school entrance. School will test 50 kids randomly per week directly in the school

Will they confiscate the tests to prevent you from simply showing the same test everyday?

That will make going to school too expensive for most students...

My school is in the deep south and we have already been told we can forget about reopening anytime soon and as teachers we should prepare our classes until the end of the school year in April as the governor doesn't expect any on-site learning in our province in the near future.

I've heard similar.  In reality they should simply forget this school year and start again when the new school year is supposed to start, after songkran in 2022, with the kids re-sitting the year they were in this year.  It will result in kids leaving school a year later, but at least they will have received a full education, for what it's worth.

Where I live all the kids have been learning together, sharing computers and mobiles to get tuition.

After tuition they've been playing together, going shopping and having a nice time... you don't think they've been in self isolation on their own surely?

Going back to school is not going to change anything.

That's normal, nothing new - has been this way from the opening of the very first school and will remain that way while ever there are people on this planet.

complete tosh.  most schools I know are going to be carrying on online teaching for at least next month and no doubt the ones that do open will have a few cases and then they will shutdown.     the usual knee jerk reaction here.

You would think anyone with half a brain would continue getting kids to learn online while those vaccines going to adults requiring it, grandparents, immunocompromised people, others with pre-existing conditions, mums, dads, and kids last as they have the least risks.

 

Once the above has been accomplished, then if required, vax the kids and open up the schools.

You mean like germs and viruses are usually passed around by kids.  They don't call schools germ factories for nothing now do they?

Theres going to be a lot of other illnesses not just covid ie  flus colds  chicken pots the viruses that kids get normally  because  theyve been separated for so long there will be a kind of lack to herd immunity not like when I was young and we had partys for kids if just one got measles so they would all get and and become immune

I disagree. This will never ever end and there will always be new variants and booster jabs, It's a bit like gardening... by the time you have finished, you have to start again. Schools need to open asap. It's already been too long!

Ok, your entitled to your opinion as am I, that said, kids are usually the 1st to get infected at schools, then they bring it home.

 

For me, I'm not concerned as I have been double jabbed, but the wife isn't, that said, hopefully she gets a dose of Moderna next month as she isn't going for Sinovac followed by AZ, her choice and there are many like here.

 

Now kids go to school, get infected and bring it home, catastrophe as many are not vaccinated, hence the reason I suggested adults 1st, kids last as they are low risk, that said, too much emphasis is placed on education, more needs to be focused on people getting vaccinated, even if that means repeating all of our kids and paying for it all over again.

 

Health first, everything else 2nd in my opinion.

God I hope mine don't do that. Trying to "teach" a class of 130+ online is a nightmare! Give me 20 to a class in person any day. At least I'll be able to seewho's actuallythere and not just logged in and gone off to watch TV.

Interesting reading the OP and some of the replies.

 

We sent our daughter back to the village in July where she attended the local school until it closed for holidays this month. She will start back at her International school in BKK on Nov 1st. This is grade 1.

 

Goes to show that no matter what the Government announces during it's daily flip flop conference, the rest of the country do what they think is best.

 

For those banging on about it's wrong to let the kids go back...absolute nonsense, get them back and get them learning and socialising with their peers again.

 

Learn to live with Covid or just turn out the lights.

That's OK, just concentrate on those willing to learn or being forced to by smart parents.

Anyone with half a brain can see that kids have statistically a zero percent chance of dying from covid. The people at risk should already have gotten the jab since the health ministry is saying Bangkok is at 70% fully vaccinated.  Anyone under 30 should be allowed to live a normal life which includes going to school. If you are afraid stay home and take all the precautions you feel necessary.
