A 63 year old American man who is accused of fraud has been arrested in Hua Hin after spending fifteen years on the run.

Police say the man, who was named only as Mr Tom, set up a website that tricked people into submitting their online banking credentials.

The man then allegedly transferred money from the victim’s accounts into his own account.

Extract from the "Full Story" above;

  "Police said the man was arrested just one day before the statute of limitations was due to expire on the case, which would have meant he would have been a free man."   -- Just one day short of fifteen years!

One hell of a coincidence or what?

There is a lot more to this story than has been said so far!

They seem to arrest quite a few people just one or two days before the statute of limitations runs out.

I wonder if the 'negotiations' didn't go as the police planned.

Looks like the lockdown kept him from running.

Does he have permanent residency/citizenship, did he do 90 day reporting?

With the trusty USB and internet connection.

He must know certain people plus paying off others to stay on the run for 15 years

How many more will be reading about in the coming weeks / months doing the same

I wonder, did the fraudster run out of brown envelopes in which to insert his weekly ‘payment’ or did he just run out of cash?

I wonder how they manage this without lodging any relevant paperwork with any agency for extending the right to remain here.

Bank accounts etc, plod must be fairly slack on many levels along with other agencies work with Immigration

That's what is probably what the police are going to do with the Red Bull chap.

Two days before the Statute of Limitations runs out.     Bam, gotcha.

In other words, after just one more day, the perp could stop paying protection money.
