PHUKET: Tourists arriving in Phuket on a direct flight from Stockholm were given a warm welcome on landing at Phuket International Airport today (Oct 25).

On hand to lead the welcoming committee was Phuket Vice Governor Piyapong Choowong. Joining him were Monchai Tanode, General Manager of Phuket Airport; Thitiporn Maneenet, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Director for Europe, Africa and the Middle East; and Nanthasiri Ronnasiri, Director of the TAT Phuket Office.

Passengers boarded the Finnair flight, AY153 on the ARN - HKT route, at Arlanda Airport in Stockholm, and touched down in Phuket at 9:12am, reported the Airports of Thailand (AoT) Phuket office.

LOL a fanfare for 135 tourists,

135 on board, street food vendors jumping for joy................

lets hope none of them return a positive test or they could all be banged up lol

In total 135 foreign tourists were brought to Phuket under the Phuket Sandbox scheme, and were cleared through Gate 11,

The flight today marked the resumption of the Stockholm ‒ Phuket service after a hiatus of nearly two years, noted Vice Governor Piyapong.

The next flight whenever that will be will be the real test, currently 135 people tavelled from a whole country , I would have been more opptimistic if another flight was arriving tomorrow and it was full otherwise I don't see anything to be writting home about - when is the next flight and how many passengers ?

Reading the headline I thought wow what an expense and waste of cost to fly A Tourist, then I thought he must be a gazzilionaire and chartered the large plane for all his suitcases full of money.  However, I then read the article and realized how wrong I was in my view as the "Tourist" was many more and not the Hi-Born billionaire Thailand was recruiting to buy property and get a 10 year visa......

Flights 4 days a week in November.

Starting at 9 768 baht one way.

Definition (British) of word TAT :”…….items which you think are cheap and of bad quality”.

Reminds me when SAG (Saudi Arabian Govt.) was changed to GSA !

Cant believe this unfortunate acronym has never been pointed out here !

OP Headline could be better. Appears as if only one Tourist on that flight ! which is the only reason I opened OP, which otherwise is rather like an article title of “ Water Found to be Wet”……

from the Monty Python college of “stating the bleeding obvious”.

Probably cheaper to buy a return ticket than a oneway.

Most of the time I can relate to the negative views so often expressed here. In this case I think the point is more about the resumption of direct flights. Somebody had to do it and now that it is a known resource the numbers will undoubtedly increase. Does this fix the entire problem? Of course not but in my clearly minority opinion, it is cause for celebration.

Meanwhile in Roi Et. Nok to Pichai: "The Swedish guy somehow managed to get back to Thailand, quickly move back to your own house".

I know tourist numbers are low but next time maybe put an 's' on 'tourist' in the headline.  Reading the headline, I thought the plane arrived with just 1 passenger.

The plane looks like a A319-100 or perhaps a A320-200 which has a 'max passenger capacity of 124-156 and 150-186 respectively. 135 tourists who flew in seem a near full load of passengers contrary to the moaners assertions. Moreover some safe seating distancing may be in the seating protocol.

The aircraft is a 787 Dreamliner.

How do you think an Airbus A319 could make it nonstop from Stockholm to Phuket ??
