BANGKOK (NNT) - Tourism and Sports Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakan is confident that replacing the Certificate of Entry(COE) system with the ‘Thailand Pass’ system will greatly contribute to the increasing number of foreign tourists when the country reopens on November 1.

The Tourism Minister boasted a significant rise in hotel bookings under the Phuket Sandbox scheme for November now that travelers from 45 countries and one territory will be allowed to enter the country without quarantine.

However, visitors need to provide a negative test for COVID-19 before traveling and take a COVID-19 test on arrival and wait in an approved hotel for the results. After they have been cleared, they will be allowed to travel freely in the country.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the Thailand Pass system is web-based and designed to make the documentation process for people entering Thailand more efficient. This system collects both travel and health information and will help facilitate the filing of TM6 and T8 forms.

The system also applies to people who have not been vaccinated or have received just one shot of COVID-19 vaccine and are entering Thailand under the alternative quarantine program.

As Thailand is transitioning from the Certificate of Entry (COE) to the “Thailand Pass” system, hotel refunds for any 7-day booking are eligible for those unable to apply for Thailand Pass in time. Travelers from the 45 countries and one territory exempted from quarantine, who booked their accommodations prior to the commencement of the quarantine exemption scheme, are advised to contact their hotels for a full refund. The government has already notified hotel operators regarding this eligibility.

Now, here's my quandary - You have to take a Covid test and show you're negative to board a plane. What use is another test after getting off the plane other than to generate revenue for the people performing the test? Did I suddenly get Covid from any of the OTHER passengers who ALSO tested negative?

Better if they make own travel bubble in airport! Use ATK test and put peple who get positive test result in PCR test. All other can wait in bubble.

If they had changed the name of the COE two months ago they could have already been enjoying the benefits.

They didn't just change the name but made it a bit more cumbersome. That should really help attract more people!

Perhaps they'll get the picture in a couple of months - or not.

As it stands presently, doesn't appear that the learning curve is going to modify itself any time soon.

Traditional Thai rhetoric and convoluted thought doesn't carry too much weight in an international scenario.

Kindly define "quarantine" and if not too much asking, please also define "without"

Apologies as I am not a native English speaker

In Sweden a testing company got caught making test certificates without actually performing labtest, just collecting money for certificates.

Your vaccine online application hasn't caused enough laughing stock? Now you want to go international?

I've had same thought, perhaps it's not mandatory for cabin crew to vaccinate?

I don't understand some people - when they say no quarantine they mean quarantine - where is the confusion, some people just don't get it

Or Thais to take a PCR test unless the airline requires it.

I am "International" and I am not getting enticed at all. Getting face raped twice just to be able to come to your country, where you can get arrested for having a glass of wine to your dinner or inviting a couple of friends to your garden for a sunset GT is not my kind of holiday MR. Pipat, By they way how did you get your position as Tourist minister?

I still hope to one day read reliable information from the Thai authorities on what I should do if my test is negative, but someone else on the plane tests positive.
I really don't want to be in quarantine for 14 days, especially since I was recently ill and have already recovered from covid.

I see that this issue worries a lot of people on this forum. But perhaps we will receive an answer only after one of the tourists gets into such a situation and shares it in the press.

That has happened in the sanbox on Phuket. Seems that they didn't quarantine the whole plane but only people sitting near the person who tested positive. So, seems to be a real risk though with ambiguous consequences (like so many things in Thailand).

And do not forget Covid insurance AFTER you have been vaccinated.

the Thai bureucrats still dont get it.....replacing the COE with a Thai Pass to "make filling out the T8 form easier" is not offset by ripoff priced overtesting, having the visitor hope he doesnt get quarantined because someone near him on the flight is positive (possibly false positive) closed bars, insurance mandates, having their holiday disrupted by changing the rules....remember when they replaced  the HKT to BKK  flights with  a 10 hour bus trip?  and PARTICULARLY since the foregn tourist knows he has different mandates imposed on him then Thai tourists do

And the fact that 80% of the landing slots have been handed back until March next year is a clear indication that the airlines know that the tourists are not interesting in coming in numbers until the claptrap stops

The big problem with the Thai Pass is that you still have to obtain a Thai Pass (COE by another name) before traveling to Thailand.

Thai Pass ON ARRIVAL would be fine thank you.
