Drivers of vehicles in Thailand that emit black smoke face fines of up to 6,000 THB and could also have their licenses revoked.

The Pollution Control Department (PCD), along with the police and Department of Land Transport said they will aggressively target drivers of cars emitting black smoke by imposing the maximum punishment in accordance with Thai law.

The move is aimed at reducing PM2.5 air pollution by up to 25 percent.

The PCD says that predominantly diesel vehicles are responsible for emitting black smoke.

PCD chief Attaporn Charoenchansa said that his department had already checked 25,000 vehicle in Thailand since the start of the year.

However, only 100 drivers had been ordered to take their vehicles off the road until the engines were fixed in order to not emit smoke.

How often do they have to pay that fine? Once a day? Once a year? Or once for the lifetime of that vehicle?

That's small fry compared to the thousands of cars and trucks emitting excessive exhaust .

Very realistic.

Nothing will change, same as the helmet enforcement ( or lack thereof ).

Where there is smoke there is chicken!

It's a start, and maybe after couple years, they'll actually make a difference.  Sadly public trans vehicles are a big part of the problem.

Helmet enforcement does work, during the day when enforced.  When I lived in Udon Thani area, go into town, and daytime, it was 90 vs 10% helmets worn.  After 1st shift, and PoPo done for the day, it was 10 vs 90% helmets off ... ????

The PM stated a couple of years back that ALL vehicles emitting excessive black smoke will be ordered off the road and scrapped....my guess is his idea of excessive and normal folk,s don’t match.....

I couldn't get past a truck belching black smoke on Nua yesterday (on M/C). The pipe went straight to the overtaking lane and I daren't risk needing to take a breath before getting past.

But without policing this is just more smelly exhausting from Department of Land Transport.

The Pollution Control Department (PCD),

The police

The Department of Land Transport

So judging by the above it must be true !!!!!!!!!! LOL. :giggle:

Of course, worst offenders are the ancient GOVERNMENT buses that ply Bangkok's streets. They were old when I arrived in 91.

EDIT I should also add that much of the worst air pollution can't even be seen with the naked eye

Have you ever wondered why there is so much trucking traffic on the roads at night.....................:omfg:

Fines up to 6000b a day?   ...well , there's a Million baht earned   for the government   in 1 day in Pattaya

In reality a 500 Thb fine , Last year I was in a testing station getting

my truck tested, the guy in front of me had an old beaten up builders

truck, bed of the truck falling to bits  lights broken, doing the smoke

test ,the whole place filled up with black smoke , I had to clear out

till it cleared, no way is he getting a pass I thought , I was wrong, given

his pass paper and on his way.....

25,000 Vehicles checked  ......100 ordered off the road , you just know they

are not really serious about it ,

regards Worgeordie

An agent will sort that one out.

On each corner of the road, 1 agent in charge.

Fine 6000

Or

Discretely  hand over 1000

Lies Lies and statistics!  100 out out of 25,000?!!!  EVERY road round Pattaya is polluted by ancient, unserviced, diesels.  At 6K a throw, Pattaya Plod could pay off the National debt if they could be persuaded to leave their offices.

So all the Isuzu dmax pick-ups that have been tuned will soon be paying fines.

Usually get some isuzu boy racer  thinking he is in a Ferrari flooring his sh7tty dmax and have to wait for the black smoke to settle just to see he is still just in front of me.

Another recurring topic. All talk, no action.

  • Popular Post

I no longer believe the current regime. They have repeated this claim for years now, and like every problem in the kingdom, they fail to resolve anything. All talk and no action

^ Maybe they are concentrating on policies that matter to them?

Warn, threaten, implore, plea  advise, caution, cajole, appeal, repeat, ignore. No enforcement, no consequence, no matter.

Thailand....Hub of empty threats from useless Government Officials from all Departments all wearing the same drab Uniforms adorned with all those Medals earned for Duty above and beyond any level of stupidity you have ever known !

Add this to Pinocchio's 20 year plan for Thailand ... ????
