Officers of Thailand's Counter Corruption police returned 63 million baht to the abbot of Wat Huay Duan in Nakhon Sawan, central/northern Thailand.

The abbot - known as Luang Phor Phat - had the money embezzled by the Waiyawatjakorn group.

This group was comprised of three associates of the monk - a man called Sanoh and two women called Thanya and Buncherd.

These people are facing an investigation by the National Anti- Corruption Commission who have 30 days to decide what to do.

A representative of the monk said that he was happy to get the money back and wouldn't be pursuing the matter.

He would leave that up to the police.

Thai PBS didn't explain where the monk - based in Nong Bua district - got such a large sum of money in the first place.

The figure embezzled as 63,034,470 baht, to be precise.

Try putting 3 plastic bags over his head , until he tells you then.................:coffee1:

They have special arrangements for things like that to not happen. It´s based on company structures where the top dog always have to sign for any economic transactions.

If everybody just like I put 20 baht note in a charity box every time visiting a temple it might sum up over time - not to forget a 100 baht note when also getting blessed by a monk - I'm however amazed that it can be as much as 63 million baht...????

"The Church" was the second oldest form of business ever invented by man.  The cave witchdoctor/sharman would rattle bones or read the signs and be highly regarded by the tribe.  He didn't hunt or gather, but elicited tithe from the tribe.

Add on a few thousand years and nothing has changed.

At least the oldest profession is a little more upfront and honest.

I always find pictures like this repulsive.   As for rich Monks; well i've met a few including departed FIL's Brother who has been a Monk since 7 years of age until current age of 89. FIL told me his Brother was worth around 50 million Baht and that was nine years ago.

Wifes Cousins Son is 11 and has been a Junior Monk for four years; he regularly brings home 2-3,000 Baht to his Mother and says Boss Monk told them to take some home to Mum because they have too much at the Temple.

Wouldn't be quite so bad if they said "Thank You" when people made donations!

Revered monks are not allowed to touch money. He must be low so.

Nice of the temple to put the money to such good use, helping the poor through the pandemic. Oh, wait.......

I can't believe how gullible Thai people are when it comes to the Thai version of Buddhism. It is a business, pure and simple, with massive cash reserves.

Catch and release. Sell some fishes, back into the water and catch them after 15 seconds. Those fishes know, where they live.

I was living at the wrong temple for 5 years.  Pretty sure we was always broke.
