Most will not travel over New Year holidays, worry about Omicron variant – Poll

Most respondents to a Suan Dusit Poll say they will not travel during the New Year holidays because of their concerns over the COVID-19 Omicron variant and the expense.

 

The survey gauged the opinions of 1,304 people, of occupations, educational backgrounds and age groups, between December 6th and 9th about where their plans for the long holidays.

 

The survey shows 40.57% of the respondents will not travel, 34.35% said they will definitely go somewhere and 25.08% said they have not yet decided.

Pretty sure the number of deaths on the roads will once again far outweigh the deaths from all variants of covid this holiday death season

I saw only three crashes  from pattaya to Chiayaphum most drove straight into a barrier..

On the roads near me the authorities are busy making the roads even more dangerous. They have started to put a series of 1 meter high concrete posts down the grass verges on the road side. If you get a lunatic coming at you on the wrong side of the dividing line, there’s now nowhere to go. And motorbikes that plough into the grass verges on a fairly regular basis for one reason or another, will now hit concrete posts.

 

and the purpose of these posts is what exactly?

Only in Thailand — 40% say they won’t travel; the headline says “most.“ because we all know that 40% > 50%.

I can imagine any Thai who has a holiday break over the New Year period will probably travel to visit family as that is the cheapest option, or stay put and party locally with friends.

As I said in a previous post when the Muppet in charge asked everyone to go out and spend to support the economy.

What are they to spend with?

Unemployment (officially) at an all time high but in reality it's far worse as the cash in hand people, who lost their jobs, are not included.

Well, it is the 'plurality' of people that want to stay at home. The Thai must read that as meaning most.

Well I hope this is happing as we are travelling to Hua Hin for the  Christmas / New Year  less vehicles  on the roads cheap hotels and good restaurants

And the beach to our selves

If the buses are not running at full compacity than I guess we will see 20 to 30 packed in the back of trucks again. I hope it doesn't rain.

1,304 people:
40.57% of the respondents will not travel = 529.0328 persons
34.35% said they will definitely go somewhere = 448.1848 persons
25.08% said they have not yet decided = 327.0432 persons
529.0328 persons + 448.1848 persons + 327.0432 persons = 1304.2608

Apart from this mathematical carp I - for one - query, if 1'304.2608 persons are reflecting the opinion of +/- 70 million people - go figure ????

This year is a good idea to stay home with loved ones.

 

Drunk drivers are particularly dreadsome during the weeks preceding New Years and after.

 

Add crowds and COVID its the year to stay close to home.

I ain't travelin nowhere for sho. Why would i risk having to cancel my trip again just like so many times in the past 2 years. Ain't takin no chances with that anymore

I will bet you 1000 points (and the points don't matter) that come the week of New Years Eve and New Years that Highway 11 in my neck of Lamphun heading to Chiang Mai will ram-jam-full of BKK holiday goers heading North.  Perhaps a few less people will be taking buses.  Private cars?  Lots and  lots of cars.  
All the Covid checkpoints in Lamphun (HW11 at Maeta) and Chiang Mai (HW 11-121 intersection) have been completely dismantled.  "Come on up!  The Covid's fine."
I wonder how long it will take them to put them back up again in January?  ????
