Bank salaries

Featured Replies

Good morning,

A friend of mine is dating a lovely lady.
I saw her ones and she seems to be a well educated, down to earth woman.

My friend, not registered here, is trying to find out what could be her salary.

She is 40 and works as a branch manager for a local bank.

He thinks that she might earn 70-80k a month.

My opinion is, that this would be quite low for someone with a Masters degree and having 10 staff to manage.

Any ideas about what could be her salary?

Btw, he doesn't want to ask her, what I understand.

He should just ask her.  Thais are not generally backward in coming forward about money (or lack thereof).

They need to know the pecking order so the wealthiest person is the one that pays the restaurant bill.

In fact she'll probably consider it an insult that he hasn't asked her yet.

If she is such a lovely lady, you should respect her privacy and mind your own business!

It seems it is not unusual that people with a steady and even reasonably good salary spend a lot more than they can afford.

I've not yet encountered a 5., but there must be a few.

Checked with mate.

She was in a long term relationship with a Thai which broke up 4 years ago.

She never married and no children.

She focused on her career and now thinks the time for family is what she is in for.

I have multiple friends in each of the above professions.  They would be ecstatic to make half that amount.  Most make about 1/3 and that is higher than what they started at.  Some get annual bonuses equal to about a month of their salary, some haven’t had bonuses in years.

It also says that the median salary in Thailand is over ฿100,000.  Laughable.

Thai bank manger :depends on age and size of branch too of course. I'd say 40 to 50 for a young one, she's 40 so she'll make more for sure, 50-60 perhaps. But in a big branch she could make 70+.

Lordie, the amount of vitriol aimed at the gentleman lucky enough to be dating a serious catch by members who found their wives top of a bar pole:-)

Heck, if this works out it could be great for us. Many have posted re banking issues. A Thai bank manager on call would be a godsend.

True story: years ago my friend Jon was being pursued relentlessly by an IO who was a friend of a colleague. He was/is a consultant on an expat pay package. We told him to go for it. But he said, nah, she's too pushy. Guess who he ended hitching up with. Yep, someone he met in the Nana Disco (in the Nana Hotel, years back when it was the one and only late night club as old timers may remember).

They're happy with three lovely kids but I sometimes think when dealing with 90-day/extension <deleted> how nice it would be to not have to worry because of a Mrs. Jon.

Can we rule out 1 & 3 if she has attained the role of bank manager?

Depends on the size of the branch but B40k-80k would be the normal range.

My wife is the manager of a fairly big export company with quite many workers both at the port and the mine, in Australia she would be getting  4 plus times what she earns here which is under  80,000 baht a month, wages in Thailand are a lot lower than the west

Maybe she was a career woman? Maybe why she has got to where she is and hasn't bothered with potential Thai suitors.

In my limited experience with old women every Thai women 30 or older thinks she is old. And 40 is probably ancient.

And they are right. Which man wants a 30+ or even 40+ woman when there are enough pretty young girls out there?

Well, if she makes near 200k/mth as seems to be the case there would always be young guys who think, heck, my days of being holed out in Bearing teaching English could be over. And, it's not that I can't have my cake and eat it too. I mean she's not home 8-8.

Tellers make about 15K/month.

I doubt those numbers being quoted above are very accurate.  I would agree more with the 40-80K figure.

Just ask her that you are curious how much bank managers earn in Thailand.  Not specifically her if you are uncomfortable asking her that.

Not sure how many Thai males stay in long term relationships without ever marrying if she was such a good catch?

Maybe she was previously married, he took a younger Mia Noi or ran off altogether?

Her story is very unusual for a woman her age.

Bank manager at 40 is not very high climber so there must be more to the story?

Once again you appear to be using a false salary information website - please check it out.

You can never rule out #3, we are talking women here.

It won't matter once your friend starts dating her and things get serious.  She will quit her job and live off him.
