BANGKOK (NNT) - The Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) could impose new measures on Friday after an assessment is made for the Covid-19 situation after the New Year holidays.

 

Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha had instructed officials to monitor the Covid-19 situation following the reopening of companies and government buildings following the New Year break. Information will be given to the CCSA during their meeting on January 7 for implementing new measures to prevent and contain the spread of new outbreaks.

 

The spokesperson said the government’s review of new infection cases will take four weeks, with the first two weeks focusing on the number of cases and the latter two weeks on severe patients and fatalities. The assessment will result in revisions to the regulations for dealing with the situation. He urges unvaccinated people, particularly those in high-risk categories like the elderly, chronic patients, and pregnant women, to get vaccinated as soon as possible, while also recommending others to register for booster doses to reduce the severity and danger of fatality from the virus. People who visited high-risk areas or traveled during the holidays must take a test for possible infection or enter quarantine immediately to safeguard themselves and others.

 

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of taking preventive measures after New Year like wearing masks, washing hands, maintaining social distancing, using ATK tests, and working from home for 14 days. People who need to work on-site must take ATK tests before going to work and again every three days for assurance. He assured that the government will keep a close watch on the situation and consider appropriate measures to ensure the safety of the Thai people.

Telling people to do ATK going do jack if they don't report them. Thai rules on quarantine by state do nothing to encourage people to report covid unless they are I'll enough to seek medical attention. They haven't a clue on the true situation.

After 2 years...

Inventing the wheel again??? Nothing useful to use from the last year??? Why should it take 4 weeks??? Is it impossible to make plans for if there are 10.000 infections we do... if there are more than 20.000 we do.... and if there 50.000 we do..... Why constantly walking behind the facts??

Does this change anything for those ALREADY within the Thailand Pass system that are still arriving in the next few weeks?

Thai government needs one month to decide on new COVID-19 measures

 

 

The Thai government will need at least four weeks to assess the latest COVID-19 situation, following the long New Year holidays, after which new infections are expected to surge.

 

It will then decide whether to adjust existing safety and preventive measures, said Government Spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, today (Wednesday).

 

He explained that it will take two weeks to assess the new infections and another fortnight to assess the numbers of hospitalisations and fatalities before a decision can be made by the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), which is chaired by the prime minister and is due to meet this Friday.

So now it is official that they are using January 10th as the new cut off date for Test & Go and anyone else still in the system has to re-apply?

They need to leave it to the medical professionals.. omg ????

I was assuming they are waiting for the figures on infections first which they seem to suggest will take 2 weeks and then another 2 weeks for those cases to filter through to hospitalisations and then deaths. To be honest I would have thought there would be some delay between people going into hospital and either recovering or dying.

 

That TAT 14 million is looking mightily optimistic now. They carry on like this they will be lucky to get 1.4 million. If they do not open again soon the airlines - those still operating - will just give up on 2022

Probably.

All this spouting off about what people should do if they travelled is pure fantasy land. I would put money on most people just carrying on as usual. Officials who think otherwise are just perpetuating the dichotomy between what the government thinks is happening per their regulations, and what is actually happening.
 

Just like the bar closure order in Phuket, whilst in reality bars open normally. Or the stringent checks to make sure only vaccinated  travel into Phuket, when in reality my daughter and I flew there on 3rd January from Udon (via Bangkok) and when we arrived just waltzed through the airport with no checks on our vaccination status at all.

 

it’s a mess and the reality is that covid doesn’t what it wants in Thailand. Some would say that’s good, others would say it’s bad. But it IS what is happening.

If they had a sense of responsibility, they might go into self isolation on a positive, which would be a benefit. Not really expecting it if people are asymptomatic. 

Here’s an idea: how about the government lock itself down and everybody else LIVE THEIR LIVES! There’s only one! 

Not much they can do—if most people have double vaccinations.  Give them credit for this delay.  Finally, some sensible non-actions.

I think at the speed of which these covid numbers are going to sky rocket they'll be making decisions Alot sooner than 1 month.

Not based on anything I have read. Once you have the QR code, you are good to go. 

I think that 'might' should be, will impose restrictions as it's the tool they have used from the outset to stifle democracy, emergency decree extension after extension being the prime example, with no effect on the virus spread.

By now we all know except for the Muppets that it's all about vaccination.

Incredibly low. And it burns itself out quite fast. So far, it looks like Omi is the best thing to happen to us in a very long time. It very well could be the beginning of Covid. Let us not panic. This is not the Bubonic plague.

January is going to be a nightmare for a lot of businesses.

Entertainment venues must now surely re-think their long term business strategy.

In Pattaya new bistros are opening up on the sites of former girlie bars; 'the waitresses' remain the same.

The very same government stated just last month , no going back and will have to learn to live with it once majority are vaccinated.
