Local village guy doesn't want me to use his benchpress. Interesting photos attached.

On my daily morning walk in the middle of the nakhon nowhere rice fields I recently discovered a home-made bench press on a public soi road. I have looked at land in this area and know that its 100% a public road (Ive seen it on a chanote). Its a dirt road that leads to a dead end. The owner of the rice field built a shack for his workers that is abandoned on the edge of the rice field land. I rarely see anyone there until last week. The bench press is on public land.

A week ago, I was in the middle of doing some bench press exercises and a guy turns up on his moped. I greeted him in thai. He didn't answer just looked at me. I repeated myself 3 times. He finally responded. I decided to leave the area and get on with my walk.

Actually a few months ago we looked a land very close to this area but didnt proceed because there was a shack built right on the boundary of the land (on the other side of the fence). We asked the neighbours about that shack and they said the guy has mental health issues. Stay away. I can only assume its the same guy that set up the interesting device on the bench press in the photo.

I have been going there every morning for short time to do 3 sets of 15 presses. This morning I noticed theres an interesting device on the bench.

Please look at the photos and let me know what message the guy is telling me. For me 'the message is loud and clear'.....

I sometimes park my car on public land, does this mean that everyone has the right to use my car?

  • Just because something is on public land does not mean it's available for anyone to use.  Best to stay away.

Listen to the advice of your neighbors and stay on your wife's land.

You sound like a real nosy person.  Stay well away and mind your own business. Or end up in trouble ....

It is getting a bit worrying to read every day,  ' .............guy has mental health issues '.

I was genuinely looking forward to seeing what use was being made of one of these, such that it provided "interesting" photos:

Workshop Bench Press (10 Ton) - CSA10B - Clarke Tools

Very disappointed.

If you are so keen on using a bench press, why not buy your own and install it in your own house.

Use your own and the problem will solve itself.

Though as delightfully tempting as it appears, I think I could forego a workout there w/o much problem...

There is probably something battery powered under that bucket which should not get wet.

Obviously you can speculate a lot what this is all about but that is just that, speculation.

If one found a bicycle parked on public land, would one presume that it's there for anyone to use? The answer is clearly no and I think that the 'message' that the builder/owner is sending is also quite clear.

I think the O/P would be very foolish not to heed that message.

A friend from my home country [usa] told me a while ago - 'nobody says it can't get any crazier anymore.'

For the sake of a bench press, why would you even court trouble.....

Alternatively you could do something less confrontational and perhaps unexpected. Why not leave some fruit on the bench; I am sure it would be well received.

Persist, and you might make a new ally. That sounds better than having a disaffected local guy sending you messages.

If it's not yours, leave it alone. Simple.

If I left my truck on a public road and came back to find someone sat in the bed I wouldn't be happy. It's his hardware and he took the trouble to build it. Plus, if he feels you're deliberately testing him he might bring a machete next time.

that doesn't look like it's on public road, even if the chanote says otherwise, plus the shack in the back looks like someone is intend on occupying the area.

also,

just because the area doens't have a chanote or doesn't show up on the search doesn't mean it's not legally occupied, sor por kor land title don't show up on online maps either

Its not yours, why would you feel its ok to help yourself, and given the interaction you encountered, stay clear of it.

Buy your own, they are not expensive.(under 2k)

Such a lovely piece of equipment. Why would you even want to touch it?

Just to keep you all informed, my wife is no longer allowed out in public.

How about you leave him a Beer with a thank you for letting me use the bench press note on it.
Then see if the device is on there tmw.

Anyway just because the dirt road is public doesn't mean the land beside it is.
