Thai navy fires 37 million baht torpedo at target just 46 kms from Koh Phangan

When they refuse to start up the engines on their aircraft carrier because it costs $5,000 just to get them going, forgive me for having grave doubts that they'd actually waste a million dollar torpedo. There's something we're not being told here, maybe the torpedo was old and had been donated by the USN, or else it was a blank and they retrieved it for future use.

It was on loan with a dummy war head me thinks and a long line to wind it back in like a kite.

These guys are doing very, very important work to protect the people of Thailand from the countless threats they face on land, at sea, and in the air. What would Thailand do without their highly skill

  • odd, they don't actually mention they hit the target.

There have been thousands of times in the past when a "peaceful" country operated drills, only for the sheep to proclaim, 'why?'   Luckily, they were prepared in the future when the attack DID come.

Lots of dangerous foes across the borders, ready to invade peaceful Thailand: Laos, Cambodia, Orang Asli...

Surely the sailors could have better target practice if they were sent to Ukraine and land based for a few weeks? Armed with Javelin and NLAW rockets they could have a lot more excitement and benefit at a much lower cost per "shot" than these unnecessary torpedos.

What put the Thai military in a real war zone ? Goodness, Nike and Adidas couldn't supply enough running shoes for them in time.

Though absolute contentment must be a beautiful state of mind, it is not something most of us are blessed with, in case you have not noticed. The fact that I complain, does not mean I do not love Thailand, nor most of it's people. I do. I love my life here. I have a very good life here. But, I do have some complaints, and there are some things I would love to see improved. And does the military really need to expend million dollar torpedoes, to be prepared for the imminent Burmese or Viet invasion?

Insulting the military here, and especially the extremely toxic, and nearly useless army comes easily, and very naturally. And using China and the insane CCP as a basis of comparison means nothing.

Big Thumps-Up form the poor and destitute ! Wonder if those people queuing for food a while back think that was a good use of money.

They mean 3 Million baht torpedo.
Rest was commissions.

More likely donated by the Americans as Thanks for hosting Cobra Gold exercises.

This display of firepower should discourage those hordes of invaders from Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. One can never be too careful.  ????

Looks like a  bunch of holidaymakers from Florida!613917.jpg.dc7be9670df501c556f6725a888c897b.jpg.36ba28bbea9efdc0ee01ad3dfecb789f.jpg

Thailand has no enemies so won’t get attacked so no real need for any military ( like Costa Rica) . Should have fired test torpedo at fraction of cost ????

37 million baht could of helped a lot of unemployed Thais who are hungry

At 35 meters i doubt it.

Was it armed ? or a blank dummy. Dear boss, "I need another 37 million baht to replace the Dummy  torpedo i just fired, please find enclosed a stamped return brown envelope"

It is a blessing in the sky. Try to imagine, they would have received those three submarines from China already. Try to imagine, that those subs would be equipped with real engines.

Chances, that Somchai would have fired and sunk a friendly, i.e. Thai submarine, commandeered by Somsak .... followed by three to six months temple ...... They would have had to wake up Prawatch to spill the beans.

Honestly, how can a country with such a social imbalance of wealth go and blow a torpedo at USD 1.2 million a pop? If it did not hit any target (and there is no reference to that) and did not self-explode, then there is news 53 metres down at the seabed - well done! Give 'em all a medal for good work!

what was it a stationary plywood cut out of a ship ..at 2.5 km away why should Thailand tremble when they have this power

i could probably have hit it with a frisbee.. Never mind only 37.000.000

Yes, it is quite obvious Thailand has something in common with Ukraine. Scary neighbors, with dictator despot leaders. Well, as least the last part is right!

Well it wouldn't have been one those Chinese subs. Unless they towed it there

I'm pretty certain a torpedo of that class will avoid the shallow bottom.  It must have been a miss or they would have bragged about it.
