Electric Vehicles in Thailand

( where is the divided symbol on an iPhone ? ).

Well, to answer my own question, there isn’t one !!

So I used “ text replacement “ to create a shortcut, copy the symbol and choose any letter or word combination to enable it.
I chose ++ to give me the ÷ option:

Apologies for the slight deviation, back to Electric Vehicles in Thailand

Your assumption Thailand will follow, is I believe, false.   Two completely separate markets with separate circumstances.   What kickstarted the EV revolution here was BYD & GW

You know that this is the divide character, right?

/   Like 5/10= 0.5?

Actually that is forward slash and represents 5 out of 10 and not divide at all.

Apple accept that the divide by or division symbol is absent and used the foreward slash symbol as their text replacement example in Apple Support Community.

For an EV the SU7 handles very well...😁 😂 😀 🤣

To be fair, the "/" symbol is mathematically standard for "divided by" and has been for as long as I remember on any computer. Same as "*" is "timesed by".

5/10 = 0.5.

So no one has ever lost control of an extremely high performance ICE?  Should I show some videos of ICE cars losing it and crashing?  My God you are a bore. What are you trying to prove? I don't get it.

I moved to the east side of Pattaya close to the highways. So within a radius of 5km there are two PTT gas stations with charging stations.

Besides that there are probably a lot of options in and around Pattaya city.

My monthly mileage is 1.500km with 90% short rides (<60km).

So considering all of that my profile would be more or less ideal for an EV.

Which EV does give you a range of 580km? BYD Seal?

Andrew's post above gave you the figures. He has the long range premium and I have the performance  - a car that is very difficult to drive sedately.

The roads where I live in Surin are mostly dual carriageway (4 lane) so I can use the acceleration to pass slow moving traffic in the fast lane. The traffic in Pattaya on the other hand.....

He has ran out of arguments to show that EVs aren’t any good and now just trawling through the internet to find anything that he can. Next, we might see a video from him of an EV getting a puncture as his proof that EV tires can be punctured.

Does anyone know if I can lease an electric car like the BYD Atto 3 for a year at around 18-20k a month?

or am I dreaming?

MG EP

The company has inspected the vehicle. The cause was found to be due to high humidity in the compressor of the air conditioning system, causing the insulation resistance to be lower than standard. In this regard, the company's technical staff has taken action to fix the vehicle to return to normal operation at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, 2024.

Probably a translation issue, but what are they trying to say?

All ACs have 100% humidity and condensation.

I am sorry I don’t have an info on the financing for the Atto 3 but maybe @Pib our Atto 3 expert can help you.

Here is the finance for the BYD Seal which is a more expensive car, but should give you some idea. It’s not a lease but finance purchase for less than ฿20k per month.

I see the Dept of Land Transport (DLT) has posted March 2024 vehicle "registrations."   Registration means the sale has completed the process and vehicle blue book issued.   For the RY1 Passenger Cars (7 or less people) the total registrations in Mar 2024 for EV "and" ICEV was 45,315.   For Feb 2024 (which was a very weak month) the total RY1 EV "and" ICEV registrations was 47,063.

So, the sales slump for EV/ICEV is continuing....actually got a little worst from Feb   I expect folks are burnt-out from their end of 2023 vehicle buying spree and also gun-shy of buying right now due to ongoing cut-throat pricing.

@Yodarapper has previously posted both himself and his wife are on temporary assignments in Thailand for another 12 months or 24 months max

He currently renting a MG ZS for 18K per month 10 days ago he was thinking about replacing the MG ZS rental with a 2011  Chevrolet captiva with 68km for B250K

so if he sticks with his MG ZS rental for the next 24 months is going to cost B432,000 including road tax, insurance, maintenance only additional cost is fuel

or buy the 2011 Chevrolet captiva with 68km for B250K budget 24 months road tax, insurance, maintenance

cost of fuel

If you thinking about buying an EV suggest you look at

Neta V B499k

NETA V II LITE 549,000 baht

NETA V II SMART 569,000 baht if you take into account your fuel savings these models will have a similar cost outlay over 24 months  to your existing MG ZS for 18K

EV used car market is a huge unknown at the moment as finance and banks aren't lending on used EV at the moment

At the end of your stay in Thailand put the ev on facebook marketplace for cash buyer you should recover any money the car owes you

Purchasing a B1.4 million car for a 2 year stint in Thailand is not advisable  with  having to offload car, pay back finance balance  unknown values

Reservations at the ongoing Motor Show seem tame.  Please note some vehicle manufacturers at the show are not reporting their reservations daily amounts but instead will report a total amount on the last day (7 Apr) of the motor show.

https://autolifethailand.tv/half-motor-show-2024-booking/

Car reservations for the first half of the 7 days of Motor Show 2024 total 19,157 cars. Top 5 : Toyota / Honda / MG / Isuzu / ChangAn

Total reservations for the first half of the first 7 days at MOTOR SHOW 2024: 25 March – 31 March 2024 (first 7 days) total 19,157 vehicles.

** AUDI, BENTLEY, BYD, MASERATI, PORSCHE, ROLLS-ROYCE do not report total amount. Total amount will be reported on the last day.

Perfect example of cost cutting making people gun-shy of buying right now.  However, the price cuts during the ongoing motor show are definitely BIG and will result in short term high sales for certain models.  But I figure right after the motor show many potential buyers will go to the sidelines waiting for more price cuts which will probably continue to come for EV "and" ICEV.   Me thinks the price-cutting is not over for 2024...lot of throats being cut right now as the price war continues.

Audi are offering 1.2-1.5m baht off the list price of the e-Tron GT during the show. It's still massively overpriced even then, but first time to see a European maker joining the big discount party.

Problem for sales is a number of factors

Interest rates for new cars 2024 is on average 10% per year if a person opts for a repayment plan over 7/8 years that's like buy one car pay for 2

Banks and finance are talking about 30% minimum down payment of 30%

Huge increase in repossessed cars up from 150,000 to 300,000 in 2023 forecast for 2024 repossessed cars is 300,000 cars

depressed used car market due to extra stock available ( repossessed cars)

Banks and finance sell for what ever they can get and then go after the owner for the balance if the auction price doesn't clear outstanding debt

Bank of Thailand has stated that household debt to gdp is currently 190.9% they want this reduced to 180% or below

FTI stated that finance rejections are at all time high of 50% rejection rate

inflation

cost of living

Interest rates for new cars 2022 was on average 3% per year

@Pib, since you master the DLT site, can you pull out the Suzuki Ciaz registrations numbers for March?

I am curious to see how effective the 150k discount were.

SeñorLA, we know details is not your thing, but the sales numbers are from February and yes they are abysmal. The Ciaz discount started March 1st, so we will have to wait for our DLT expert to get the March registration numbers.

Breaking news! Sales of ICE (Suzuki Ciaz) increased by a staggering 7% in March over February. EVs are no longer saleable as evidenced by BYD’s zero sales during the motor show.
