Accident Medical Faculty Minibus Crashes into Lamp Post in Suphan Buri, Driver Critically Injured
Picture courtesy of Komchadluek. A crash occurred late morning on 29 May, when a minibus driver, carrying medical students from Ramathibodi Hospital’s Faculty of Medicine lost control and crashed into a central reservation lamp post outside the Suphan Buri Provincial Administration Organisation. The incident, reported at approximately 11.30, prompted an immediate response from local police and emergency services. Police Lieutenant Anchisa Satitsolot of Mueang Suphan Buri Police Station, along with a rescue team, rushed to the scene. The vehicle involved, a silver Toyota minibus registered to Ramathibodi Hospital, was found severely damaged, particularly on the front-right side, after slamming into a concrete streetlight. Three individuals were trapped inside the wreckage, including the driver, who sustained critical injuries. Emergency personnel used hydraulic cutting tools to extract the victims before providing first aid and transporting them to Chao Phraya Yommarat Hospital. According to hospital staff, the minibus was being driven by Mr Thossaphon, who had been assigned to collect medical students completing an internship at Sriprachan Hospital. They were en route back to Bangkok when the driver suddenly veered off course, mounted the median, and crashed violently into the lamp post. Eyewitnesses from the local Department of Highways, who were resting next to the lamp post during their lunch break, described the moment of terror. One worker recounted: “We were sitting just behind the lamp post on the median strip when the van suddenly swerved and crashed right into it. I jumped away instinctively. If that lamp post hadn’t stopped it, we might all have been killed.” Miraculously, the group of six to seven workers escaped unharmed. As of now, the cause of the crash remains unclear. The driver, due to his injuries, has yet to provide a statement. Police have launched an investigation and are in the process of collecting evidence and witness testimonies to determine the exact circumstances leading up to the collision. Tourism Trang’s Hat Chao Mai National Park Announces Seasonal Closure of Islands & Caves
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. The chief of Hat Chao Mai National Park, Mr. Pathum Phongsakornfueangfu, has officially announced the temporary closure of several key tourist areas within the park during the upcoming monsoon season, to ensure public safety and allow for natural regeneration. The closure affects several marine zones within the park. Koh Waen and Koh Chueak will be closed from 1 June to 30 September 2025, a four-month period. Meanwhile, Koh Muk and Koh Kradan will be inaccessible from 1 August to 30 September, lasting two months. The renowned Emerald Cave (Tham Morakot), one of Thailand’s most iconic “Unseen Thailand” destinations, will be closed from 1 to 30 September. This shorter closure is intended to minimise disruption to residents of Koh Muk while still prioritising visitor safety. These measures follow a national directive issued by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation on 20 December 2024, revising seasonal tourism closures across various national parks. The goal is to better align closures with weather patterns and ecological sustainability for 2025. By limiting access to only certain areas for defined periods, rather than enforcing a blanket closure as in previous years, the park aims to balance ecological preservation with continued tourism activity. The initiative allows some marine destinations in Trang to remain open, offering tourists alternative sites during the rainy season while preventing overuse of sensitive natural resources. The park is expected to reopen fully from 1 October 2025, marking the beginning of the new tourism season. Officials stress that these temporary closures will benefit both the environment and the local tourism economy in the long term by ensuring that key attractions remain safe, sustainable, and vibrant for future visitors.
