Thailand further eases entry restrictions for international travellers

Praise where praise is due, getting rid of all the testing is a good decision.

I agree for those vaccinated and boosted at this point, as they are not a threat in reality. The unvaccinated on the other hand at this point are oroblematic.  However, as soon as this is made endemic, then it does not matter, much like other illnesses in the past there was no need to show any status.  Once upon a time to travel to many places you needed a vaccine book, ie... the yellow vaccination book showing you had been vaccinated against certain diseases.

For the unvacconated here are the entry rules.

You forgot the unvaccinated still must quarantine for 5 days according to the initial info.

I need to amended my post. If pre flight PCR tested negative then the unvaccinated can enter unrestricted. See my last post.

How does the insurance thing work for long term expats? If i visit say Cambodia for a few days and return to my home here in Thailand do i need $10,000 insurance and for how long?

The insurance you have when you stay long term in Thailand would be valid when coming back, this is what I used last time when entering.

Plenty of future 'games' / considerations regarding what is considered fully vaccinated up ahead .   If a booster shot makes you fully vaccinated for another 270 days.... but if you allow that first 270 days to expire you might considered unvaccinated in some places?   There are going to be a lot of people who won't want to start over from scratch from dose one, fresh powder and apres ski not withstanding.

Whatever the case a booster shot is considered or not considered in Thailand, chances are they will screw it up and make it so confusing that nobody will have a single clue what to do for months at a time.

The only surprising thing that could happen is if they actually didn't screw it up and things went smoothly.

Very Wrong. Far less risk of any serious Covid if western-vaxxed.
97% western hospital Covid dead are Unvaxxed.

Yes and the 3 percent who are vaccinated and died are 89 years old.

It'll be extra fun no doubt in Thailand, but it's already getting a bit more complicated in many places.   This is just across the Schengen area... Oh I agree.

And what you aren't seeing is that when you need to test before getting on a plane, in many cases people are testing positive not because they are positive but because they were asymptomatic up to months before and still trigger the test and can't go.  This is happening far more than people realize and if this happens no matter where you are your holiday is over.

NO THANK YOU!  I prefer to not test before or after my holiday.

Is there still not the problem of which vaccines are accepted in which countries, or is the Chinese ones that are said to be useless accepted?

Unfortunately you can not return to the US unless you test within 24 hours prior to flying....

Only 230 million people live in the USA and I"m not one of them.  I don't have to here.  And I would never travel if I had to test before coming home.

My prediction.

The next step is they will drop the insurance thing.

The vaccine proof will remain.

Not sure about the Pass.

The vaccine part can be handled without the pass.

The pass if kept would be a burden particularly for quickie land border crossings.

I think it really should be scrapped entirely.

"The next step is they will drop the insurance thing." I'm not to sure about that JT. The insurance is a good moneymaker both for the soldiers government and their pals in the insurance business.

It retards tourist numbers. More important.

Well, it looks like I've answered part of my own question regarding people who have already been issued with Thai passes and are due to arrive after April 30. From the Thai Pass website, "if you have a Thai Pass already issued for after April 30 you can use it without modifying it".

Now all I have to do is find out what my Hotel is going to do about my SHA AQ test and go booking for a family of 5 that cost 21,000 baht that is no longer needed.

I know that but most have refunded this money. I doubt this is an international chain. Or her negotiating skills are weak.

Did you read - the govt said their was no responsibility on the hotels to refund.

My missus is a doctor - she's not stupid.

As far as "most" can you send me a link to that survey...

just get airlines to check vaccination status when thy check passport and visa as part of check in, make airlines responsible for returning any un-vaccinated arriving passengers.

For sure your vacc and ins certs could easily be shown at departure and arrivals . The T/P is free if you get from the Thai embassy but I know of many who have been rejected for minor things and so turn to an agency who take care of the business in hours but for a fee . Also the insurance side of things leans mainly to covid cover but this is contentious . I am not aware of any insurance company that will cover you for asymptomatic cases that require you to stay in a hospitel , plus further policy wording is open to interpretation . For more senior folk the insurance from a western company will be expensive but from a Thai company it will be a fraction of the cost .  I see the ins; as an entry fee . On 2 arrivals recently in the last 6 months at suvarnabhumi airport , the I/O did not look at my insurance papers .

I am wishing that land borders will open soon but if and when they do I guess that you will need to carry the same papers if you are a farang .

Most of the travellers have insurance bought in their home countries, can't see how this would be a moneymaker for the Thais.

I recently completed the Aussie version of Thailand Pass. You need to upload pretty much the same documents. I am a computer dummy, it took no more than 5 minutes and confirmation was instant.

But does not the Aussie version allow PDF uploads? Plus passport photopages and vaccination QR codes which have not been cropped to the nearest millimetre?

My bank is HSBC but Its' the case for any bank I think

I enter the nine first figure of my card there and I get a certifcate :

https://www.visa.fr/fr_fr/global/assurance

I changed the country from France to 1) Hong Kong and 2) United Kingdom (because my VISA cards are Hong Kong and UK issued), but unfortunately the same page with the first 9 of VISA card numbers does not equate. So I think your option is only open to you because you have a VISA issued in France, (and possibly you are French).

That's me sorted now then!

Well pleased.

Out with Qatar on April 24th and back to Bangkok on May 9th.

Just cancelled my test and go hotel and I have booked a late morning flight straight up to Roi Et.

This will really take unnecessary stress out of the equation.

Can you advise the insurance company you used, and how long the duration needed to be for the insurance, (i'm assuming you are resident in Thailand)?

(I don't use insurance for my long stay term in Thailand), as hitherto it has not been a requirement for a Non-B Visa on Extension of Stay based on Retirement, (for the last 15 years).

Just because there is some gov't note doesn't mean it's not possible. Have you read this thread?  I used a Bonvoy group hotel and there was no problem getting a refund. They have dozens of hotels here. Another poster said he booked Raddison. Many times things say no refund or does not have to give refund and if you speak to hotel they will give one. So what if your missus?! ( (really ) is a Doctor or whatever for work. Her negotiating skills may be bad. It sounds more like you are taking some gov't BS notice and running with it like it's impossible to get a refund!  What hotel was it? Tok's cheap skate motel? Maybe you can give it a try instead and see what happens? Why not.

As far as I know, there currently are no limitations as for 'when' you got vaccinated. 'Fully vaccinated' is two jabs, except for J&J, of course.

That seems to be the case for Thailand, but not for many other countries (such as Singapore, where travellers need to know about how long their particular vaccine is good for.) So a Thailand Pass may not be valid for some other countries in the region.

There is also sometimes a difference between whether you have had a booster shot or not. Some European countries are stating that validity is 9 months for doubly vaccinated people and unlimited validity for those who have had boosters.

The reason seems to be that this is no longer a health issue, but a reward for Doing The Right Thing.

The Thailand Pass is valid for entry into Thailand, not exit from, and to another country.

Great news, especially as I am due to return on May 7th.

But what about pubs? I know the clowns in charge want to keep the nightlife and sexy hostesses to themselves, but surely pubs need to start to be allowed to open and operate as normal sooner rather than later.

Pubs where  I know that the pubs on Soi 13 Sukumvit are open to the legal licensing hours, with music bands and pub quizzes...
