A new controversial, luxurious and exclusive “Parliamentary Club”, equipped with a variety of recreational and exercise facilities, is coming under fire and has prompted questions about this lavish use of taxpayers’ money, when several more pressing issues are not being tackled.

The Thai-language hashtag “Parliamentary Club” has been trending in Thailand following a media tour of the club on Monday, which revealed an indoor golf practice range, a karaoke bar, spa room, dance practice room, foot and traditional massage and a gym, ready to open on the fifth floor of the parliament building, situated on the bank of the Chao Phraya River.

Peerasak Porjit, chairman of the Senate committee which deals with recreational activities said that the club will be open for group activities once the COVID-19 situation has improved enough. Although the club has not been formally handed over to parliament, parliamentarians can avail themselves of the facilities.

Well look on the bright side. Usually it is the taxpayers money that has ended up in the offshore accounts of many prominent government members. At least some this time, albeit a drop in the ocean compared with the other, has stayed within the country even if it is the intent to provide luxury happy endings for MPs and government ministers whilst being in attendance supposedly representing the people.

Well this is what the PM must have envisioned when in 2014 his excuse for his own coup was to "return happiness to the people". Well happiness for the privileged few in this case.

What's that?? After 13 successful and nine unsuccessful coups in just over a century, I am not sure if they are even aware of this word, leave alone the meaning of it.

dance practice room, foot and traditional massage and a gym,

I think we are being very unfair.  ????

They need the dance practice room so they can learn how to waltz around the rules and regulations and get fit enough in the gym to lift all the heavy brown envelopes.

As for the massage parlour all they are doing is testing out the facilities and requirements to ensure they understand how to bring happiness to the people!

Perhaps some read reports and statistics widely available whereas some others have the ostrich syndrome or simply play at being an apologist as facts baffle them ?

Well lets face it, after the Hi-So posh end of Bangkok Covid debacle a year or so ago now they have their own private club in which they can do as they please and keep it all under wraps..[or out of wraps] whichever one applies.

Nothing but the best aye....

You forgot the watch repair and cleaning room.

I guess they got tired of being seen entering and leaving the Hiso ThongLor "gentleman's clubs".

Now they can appear to be going to work as they drink, sing and hang out with massage girls.

At least they no longer need to travel to filthy Thonglor to blow some steam off.

They have a pick up and delivery for that

Direct line to each watch company

Probably financed by a previously undiscovered stash of very full brown envelopes, so not a budgetary bottom line item.
