Islamic Council of Thailand opposed to progressive bills and laws around cannabis, marriage equality, and easing alcohol laws

Thailand-The Southern Islamic Council of Thailand released a group statement, representing thousands of Thai Muslims, that they reject and are opposed to recent progressive laws and bills in Thailand.

 

The statement from the council was made yesterday, June 24th, 2022.

 

The bills and laws they are opposed to are progressive measures that representatives of the council say are against Islamic teachings and inappropriate.

Many are opposed to halal certification, its even on water bottles, little girls swathed in hijabs and burkas, polygamy, child marriage and their jihad in southern Thailand. Opposed to progressive laws, no surprised when they are ruled by 7th century ideas and myths.

I'm happy the Islamic Council is concerned about these progressive bills.

 

It's interesting that when some lunatic aligned with Islam kills 10 people yelling Allahu Akbar, the silence from these people is deafening!

The Islam around the world is medieval and should be banned... Do they have rights for women to dress as they like? or in some countries the right to drive a car?? Religion is what someone believes and NOBODY can say if that is good or wrong, because in the end the believers will be judged..Or is terrorism less worse than a samesex marriage? for the marriage nobody dies. And alcohol? Do you think it is so bad so have a glass of wine that you will burn forever? and the obligation to go to mosque every Friday???and so on and so on... No religion is a personal things and the christians pushed everyone ages ago to convert, and the islam is even worse because there duty is to convert the whole world.. Better to get rid of all religions

And you know something? We just do not care, what you think. You do not like Thailand becoming more liberal? You always have the option of moving to Riyadh, or Islamabad. They are plenty conservative. Moving a nation backwards is never the answer, no matter how misguided your backward sentiments are. It is hard for the world to support a faith, that at it's more extreme, outlaws dancing, music, a girls right to get an education, and fun. Not to mention forcing it's women to wear a tent. God forbid someone sees their face! 

 

We just do not care!!!

They demand the utmost tolerance and respect, and even the 'right' not to be offended, But appear to give very little tolerance or respect back and when in control human rights go out of the window.

those weekend muslim Malaysian cross border visitors, which use to come in millions, will just have to travel a little further north. Budget flights to phuket, hat yai, even Hua Hin and Utapao. Even seasonal tourist charter flights for a week holidays.

They will stay longer, extended weekends, and spend more money each time.

Lots of confused people here. Just because a Muslim Council takes a stand on a certain issue, that doesn't mean that all or most Muslims subscribe to it. I have yet to see where they are legaly authorized to speak for all Thai citizens who happen to be Muslims.

It's a good idea to remember that just because they call themselves an Islamic council, it does not mean they represent all or even a lot of Islamic people.  They mainly represent themselves.

 

The same can be said for a lot of organizations.  The BNP does not represent all Brits.  The KKK does not represent all Christians.  And the proud boys do not represent gay men ????

As far as I was aware Thailand is Buddhist faith country by majority so they make their laws accordingly. Islamist countries make their laws accordingly to their faith. It's called democracy. Certain countries are becoming woke to the rights of the minority been put before the majority, road to authoritarianism IMO.
