Fans of Liverpool/Utd furious: Early ticket holders paid double, criticism of shambles "years in the making"

It should have been a proud occasion for Thailand - the first ever meeting of two legends of English football on Thai soil.

But the much vaunted "Big Match" between Liverpool and Manchester United that kicks off today has descended into shambles.

This after "The Match Bangkok Century Cup 2022" had been planned for years.

Thai Rath reported that the latest drama surrounding the event - and there have already been many - was that tickets were being sold yesterday outside Rajamangala stadium for half price.

This was making those who had paid early bird prices furious.

Tickets for 7,000 baht were going for 3,500 baht, 14,000 for 7,000 and 15,000 for 7,500 baht.

The media said that "Reds Fans" were terribly disappointed before a ball had even been kicked.

Many were complaining that the match was on a weekday and not the weekend, superstar Christiano Ronaldo, United's number 7, was not coming and now the 50% discount that was a real kick in the teeth for those that paid the full price.

Many wondered how an event planned for several years could be such a shambles.

However, when the media went to the stadium they found no tickets being sold at all - the booths had been hurriedly cleared away.

Why do people the world over attend sporting events when they can watch in the comfort of their homes? The atmosphere. The occasion. The getting out of the house and away from a screen that dominates

Scalpers lost some money on this one it seems.  I agree that having a match on a Tuesday instead of a Friday evening or a Saturday would have been great, but after all this is a long 5 day holiday weekend and so maybe they felt is was like a Friday evening game ....

Scam.

Scam from the moment it was set.

Fools.

The getting out of the house and away from a screen that dominates so many peoples lives now. The memory of actually having done something different from a quotidian existence. . .. etc,, etc.

You don't see the irony do you, nor tha sarcasm.....

I felt pretty bad when I sold tickets for the Man U game for 2000 baht a time. They were being sold for 500 baht at the ground but it is fair enough, they shouldn't moan, as they might not have got a ticket.

Pays your money takes your  chance

I am sure the true football supporter won't mind its the game that counts

Can't imagine many supporters  flew to Thailand just for the game ????

I hope it was the tickets of that show biz girl that

managed to buy 1000's , hope she lost millions.

Wonder how many of the people that paid 7,000 for a ticket were secretly hoping to flip them for even more money .

That could never happen in Thailand could it !!!! :cheesy:

Both teams are 'Reds'

Did the fans who payed full price not buy their tickets 2 years ago when the match was announced, and before Ronaldo re-joined the Filth.

Surely the only people who thought this wouldn't be a shambles were the people actually organizing it!

I was at the Stadium yesterday, it was very busy - Plenty of United fans flew over to Thailand for the match - Most will fly out on Wednesday & head to Australia where United will play a further 3 matches.

Yes, as a Wales, Arsenal and Wrexham supporter, I must protest at either of these two teams being accorded the title "Reds".

Don't think they will make there flight, we are talking about Manchester united fans, here.

Reckon most will just get stuck in the Ladyboy bars of Bangkok. :giggle:

Well, whoever goes to the stadium, better bring an umbrella. It's been raining quite strongly every day in the afternoon and evening for a couple of days now, and I don't think it'll be over today...

Gesundheit.
