A: Starmer is only one of the opposition’s leaders.

B: the tories electing truss as party leader won’t be a miracle, just an act of self destruction.

Let’s hope an early election is called before she does too much damage to the U.K. though.

As  the UK  has  been  dying for  over a  century I  doubt  it  will make any difference whose in power, stifled  by  laws restricting anything whilst Asia  laughs at it for its  correctness.

Which are those laws that you are referring to ?

I would say that the citizens of nearly  all Asian Countries would prefer the U.K's political system , rather than their own

Start with health and safety, they may well want a different political system but the facts are  whilst Asian economies  have boomed the Uk's  has  stagnated. and is  in decline for more than a century.........would Thais also want the UK costs  of  living the Uks  laws  enforced particullarly  on the roads, would the Thais  like to finance that through tax as many here dont pay tax  at  all. The UK is  over regulated and stifled to death.

So, you would like it if the rules were not followed (cheating) and the current election result was ignore and there were new elections in the hope that the Political party that you support is elected ?

What happens now is unfair to 99% of the population.

A. Yeah, coz the Lib Dems have got a chance... Maybe they could get Jo Swinson back? ????

B. Truss has excellent policies on low taxation, free market economy, post Brexit trade deals etc. You keep worrying about the definition of a woman and getting Dianne into a matching pair of shoes, leave the economics to the serious party with the power to legislate.

I have never, ever witnessed anything more shocking and abusive than the failure by bluespunk to capitalize a person's surname. You are right to be outraged. And please send my regards to Mrs. Grundy. I have to sign off now. I feel faint..

I would expect you not to see a members disrespectful "dig" at a Tory minister by not using a capital letter for her name in 'every' post, yet uses a capital letter for everything else where required.

Of course, it is childish and uncalled for, as well as you're trying to cover for a comrade....????

I don’t worry about either of those things.

I do worry that the tax plans and other pledges truss advocates will be a disaster for the country and only hope that she calls an early election before she causes too much damage.

She won’t (and is under absolutely no obligation to do so) I suspect as it is going to take a long time to heal the disastrous division opened up in the tory party during the last few weeks, but one can hope.

Brexit? Why on earth are you referring to that? I haven’t mentioned it or these shangri-la trade deals that keep on being touted.

I do hope she wins though, I truly believe that short term will be bad but long term will lead to tory defeat as truss and her premiership will not be a success.

It's Truss.......

I would think that Thai construction workers would really want the U.Ks health and safety measures and drivers would prefer   road safety measures and the whole Country would want breathable air .

The U.Ks economy has been up and down in the last 100 years , as have Asian Countries economies .

The Thai cost of living is just expensive for Thais , those earning 350 Baht per day , as the U.K cost of living .

Thais pay less tax, , but just look at their terrible roads and pavements and schools and everyone taking bribes to supplement their meagre pay , because tax payers don't pay enough tax

No, what Thais  want is everything the UK  has  without the costs

Why on earth would the Tories call an election? They have a massive majority until 2025. You can't keep re-running votes just because you lost, I'd thought you Remainers may have learnt that by now...

I didn’t say they would and did say they are not obligated to do so. I can’t blame them for not doing so because under truss they will probably lose. Funny you thinking on general elections being rerun of votes but that’s just more brexiteer deflection I guess.

Why do I mention Brexit? Because Truss showed her competence in securing many trade deals, quickly. I don't need you to mention it, I can do it all by myself since it is relevant to the topic on hand as we are discussing her credibility for leadership and her role in securing the trade deals demonstrates it.

Still nothing to do with my posts.

It doesn't matter how bad Truss is perceived to be by the far left. Until Labour ditch the likes of Starmer, Rayner, Abbott, Lammy, Nandy, Thornberry etc. they are pretty much unelectable, so make yourself comfy and strap yourself in for the ride.

Making truss party leader/pM will definitely change the electability equations.

Well you guys wanted to re-run the Brexit vote, why not the General Election as well? Or do you selectively apply Democratic principles?

Truss, if she beats Sunak, will be judged in 2025 after 2-3 years in the job. I'd save your predictions until the electorate have judged her performance in the role. I suspect it will be favourable when compared to Sir Keir (My Lord) the working class Woke hero (well, son of a factory owner) from Islington who doesn't know what a woman is.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say she won't be loved by everyone, but respected my enough to see off Labour for the 5th consecutive General Election.

We'll see in 2025.

Really, I don’t remember advocating any such thing. I supported the rights for those who called for such a thing to do so but as I am not resident in the uk I neither voted in the brexit vote nor did I campaign for a rerun. And for the final time, brexit has nothing to do with my posts.

Will truss will beat sunak, I’d say that’s most likely a given (if the polls are to be believed and nothing indicates they shouldn’t be). The opposition are no doubt hoping this is the case.

Half her own party for a start.

For the final time, we don't need your permission to mention Brexit in a Thread about Liz Truss since her role as Secretary of state for foreign, commonwealth and development affairs was intrinsically linked to the post Brexit process of establishing new trade deals. Her success in this role is absolutely relevant to the discussion.

Her party will get behind her once she is PM and gains their respect with strong leadership a la Mrs Thatcher. The Conservatives have a history of getting behind their leader for general elections. Besides, it's not the Conservative party that votes, it is the General Public.

If I was the opposition I would be focusing on getting some coherent policies together and removing embarrassments like Abbott and Rayner from the public eye. Not sit there doing nothing, hoping the Tories self destruct. Blowing out someone else's candle doesn't make yours shine brighter and the sneering/vitriol/general nastiness from the likes of Thornberry and Rayner hasn't gone down well in the past.

Well, I do have to give the Tories credit for getting rid of one major embarrassment who was dragging the party down. But like Trayner and Abbott for Labour, they still have plenty of minor ones of their own. And then there's Truss.

RE background I actually don’t care. Politicians should be judged on their actions not their family circumstances.

Anything gets truss elected is indeed good news.
