An Indian restaurant owner filed a report to Pattaya police after allegedly getting beaten by a Thai landlord for falling behind on his rent.

The Indian victim, Mr. Sukwinder Singh, 40, on Wednesday, August 3rd, traveled to the Pattaya Police Station to file a report against his Thai landlord who allegedly physically assaulted him and threatened to shut down his restaurant after he fell behind on his rent.

The victim said that he rented a commercial building on Soi 7 on Pattaya Beach Road from a Thai landlord named Sarawut, whose full name was withheld by law enforcement. Sarawut reportedly rented out his building for 150,000 baht a month to Mr. Sukvinder to run his “Punjabi Junction” Indian restaurant.

How do you ask a Native American whether he booked at the restaurant, without getting beaten up? - Obviously, you can't ask 'do you have a reservation'...

I’m sure there is a lot more to this story and if he paid his rent on time there would have been no issues.

Well he didn't.  It would be a struggle to sell enough curry to cover that large rent.

Needs 5000 baht a day profit just to pay the rent.

Now add the cost of utilities , staff , food , own profit etc .

Got to sell a lot of food to make that kind of profit. Bloke should have done some maths before jumping in.

Not unusual.... I heard the rent for The Hungry Hippo was similar...

If you have a contract, a landlord might be slightly irritated to not get paid such amount.

How big is the resturant?

Would take lots of customers and with good margins to build enough cash flow to meet 150,000Baht a month just for rent.

That would be the key money.. not the rent.
