Well in another publication it states the "police reported that the pub owner, Pongsiri [surname reserved] was arrested on July 16 this year for opening Mountain B without a license and for opening beyond the times permitted by law.

An initial investigation reveals the venue had only two fire extinguishers, which is not enough for the capacity and space of the venue"

 

Seems the police must be very well paid to allow it to open again.

There is also another name floating around as well. Seems very confused. Too many names now up in the air.

Well they had their man on July 16th when they arrested him for opening the place illegally . What happened in the intervening 20 days when it went up in flames I wonder. Wonder if they will "lose" him again, especially if his family are "connected" or those who bank rolled him are.

There were underage in there also. A mother spoke on the thai news yesterday of her 17yrs old daughter dying there. Not good at all.

The name is out there now and it doesn't register with me. 

Any suggestion that the police need to know is irrelevant because they 100% know already.

4 police officers have been transferred today. Why might that be? Not because they don't know who the owner is.

It's also telling that he speaks to pub owners, but not to the authorities that accept those backhanders even though they're the ones supposed to be preventing just this kind of disaster.

He didn't suggest that backhanders should stop. He just accused those that pay them of playing fast and loose with public safety while not mentioning those who directly benefit from receiving these backhanders. You need to know your place at the great trough of life.

A representative of the Mountain B pub’s owner claims that there were 3 fire exits, but she didn’t know that they had all been locked from the outside, as she insisted that the proprietor is ready to compensate relatives of the dead and injured.

Had the same thought.... Yet I think your post was the first among many in multiple threads here to recall the similar but much more deadly fire at Santika.

 

Lots of apparent similarities between the two cases, years apart. Not surprisingly, just goes to show that all the official puffery about inspections and enforcement is pretty much just for show, and then ends up being ignored thereafter...

 

So the same kinds of things can happen here in Thailand again and again and again....

 

And ditto with multi-story hotels and condo/apartment buildings where the fire exits are locked and/or obstructed, which likewise keeps occurring with numerous fires.

(1/2) A singer at the burnt down Mountain B Pub in Chonburi province which killed 14 on Friday and injured dozens said the pub always locked the two rear exit doors for fear of customers leaving without paying.

(2/2) Thanapat Puangpae said Sat after laying flowers he always entered the pub from one of the back doors & a guard would come to unlock it & then locked it after the musicians entered. He admits he didn't think such tragedy would occur.
