Phuket – Phuket is expecting more Indian tourists which will generate more than 7.5 billion baht this year, 2022, after a recent roadshow in India, according to relevant officials.

The Vice President of the Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation (PPAO) Mr. Arnuparb Wechwanichsanong told the Phuket Express, “The PPAO and the Phuket Toruism Association went to the roadshow tourism marketing event in India from August 1st to August 6th, 2022. The event marked the 75th anniversary of Thai and Indian relations.”

“Indian tourists are Phuket’s top tourism market. From May this year until now there have been 87,292 Indian tourists who have visited Phuket. There are more than 40 direct flights per week from India in New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore,” Mr. Arnuparb explained.

Or do the Indians in Phuket spend 10x as much as the ones who go to Pattaya ?

They seem to think they are going to spend as much, or more, than the "2 week millionaires" that used to flock to Thailand in droves. Until the current gov't decided they didn't like "white" tourists.

Not sure how 5 guys to a room, sharing 1 beer a night and (maybe) one street walker, are going to spend that much. Maybe things are super expensive in Phuket compared to the rest of the country ?

Don't do much for the economy, they are not in any way spending what a western Falang would spend weather it be genuine tourists or whoremongers.

yes every western tourist is spending mountains of cash in thailand while every indian tourist is 3 to a drink right ?

you may find that the tables are turning quite quick on those kind of old myths.

50,000 baht over 5 to 7 nights is peanuts. Extremely realistic figure. Count hotels, food, shopping, "night entertainment", and it's easy to well exceed that figure.

Of course, I can't help you with your biases.

50,000 baht is peanuts over a 5 night or 7 night trip. Hotels, shopping, sightseeing - coz a lot of them come for family holidays and go for all the touristy things to do and see - and if they're in male groups, "night entertainment", it's very easy to exceed this figure.

Unfortunately, a lot of people in this forum have made it a habit of "India bashing" or any non-white country.

Maybe its because we have seen Indians trying to get special discounts on the cheapest of things one to many times..

So are loads and loads of "whites". Are the dorms and hostels in Khao San Road at $ 15 per night full of whites or Indians? Are the beer belly singlets and shorts wearing flip flops in Pattaya hopping around on a scooter and living in 28 sq m tiny apartments "white" or Indians?

Nope you have it exactly correct, same in Phuky a lot of live music bar security are simply not letting groups of them in as they just want to watch the band, take up table/floor space for free, no drinks... nearly always in groups of four to six. Thais seem not to be too keen on them

GDP per capita in India is $1,900 per year. So for the average Indian this 50,000 baht trip is going to be nearly their entire earnings for the year. Of course it's a massive country filled with every level of income so I guess Thailand is banking on capturing those particular people.

Hmmmm….. Thailand needs more quality tourists ?  I ‘m sure I read this somewhere amongst the TAT diatribe

I get the feeling that the ones earning $1,900 a year  = $37 a week- will not be the ones flying into Thailand for a holiday....just a hunch........:omfg:

They have yet to see a price tag that can't be challenged. But they are very frequent customers at the massage shops where I know the owner. So they actually spend a lot.
