Or do you decline in a condescending way? Maybe something like "if I wanted food I'd say so"? Because I have never once had a negative reaction to only ordering beer. If I'm passing somewhere that is clearly operating as a restaurant, be it a little Thai-style establishment, or a posh-ish touristy type place, then I will always ask first if it's acceptable for me to only order a beer. I've never had an adverse reaction so far. (edit... I've just noticed who I'm responding to. Sorry, I thought it was a serious thread/question...)
