Used car market in a jam as electric vehicles spark trouble
Come on, everybody in the village will see your new car when you drive around. And when you visit the relatives in another province you can't take your house with you, but you will take your shiny new car with you. Look here, I am somebody! -

Baht strength - How long?
A Wise transfer is based on the current price of baht in the transferred currency. They don't gain or lose on the currency purchase, and they take their commission out of the purchased amount. They aren't trading in currency. There are people who are persuaded they can predict what the market price is going to be. There are also big traders, mostly banks, who bid on the market. Most banks make money on the market. Most individuals lose their shirts. -

Thai Benefits vs Taxation.
I would not restrict it there. I have read many state 'no taxation without representation' ... where I think those who state that tend to come from one country. But my understanding is those who type that want the right to vote in Thailand if they are taxed. Also, I think many if they are taxed in Thailand, they would like the right to own land in Thailand. So I would expand the benefits if one' wishes to include the benefits most people want. In my case I am happy with my Foreign freehold condo, my foreign pensions mostly from countries with DTAs with Thailand, and my foreign subsidized health insurance (as part of my pensions), ... but not everyone is in the same situation as myself. -

The bloke the OP referred to has been living in Thailand ongoing for 3 years. To not have a Thai bank account is ludicrous. -

Latest developments and discussion of recent events in the Ukraine War
The horrors of Putin's invasion does not stop the compassion of the Ukrainians to their beloved cats. I heart warming moment. "Rescuers saved a cat from under the debris of a residential building in Zaporizhzhia. Just look at the relief of the owner" -

President Kamala Harris
Hmmmm....I'm guessing this has to do with the massive corporate tax cut enacted by the Paul Ryan congress that Trump signed into law. This artificially juiced the stock market but raised the budget deficit in the trillions. And these tax cuts didn't exactly "trickle down" to the US economy as many of these companies conducted stock buybacks which helped their shareholders. -

Getting a credit card
I wasn't married. Also, I didn't mention but I was only on a TOURIST VISA at the time, the bank manager really when through hoops and over hurdles to help me. It's helps to have a switched on assistant manager (at the time) and like I said, rules and regulations change when large amounts are deposited monthly and they see your salary coming in every month. -

1-year extension based on your original Non Imm O Visa WITHOUT having a Thai bank-account
I quite understand tourists using their foreign debit cards to withdraw funds at a Thai ATM, but it's foolish and irresponsible for long stayers to use that method for funding their lifestyle in Thailand. Whilst Immigration never check, I believe for those using Embassy Income letters, they make the wrongful 'assumption' the applicants are transferring income to a Thai bank account. Just like they 'assumed' the Embassies were 'verifying' pension incomes. -

Used car market in a jam as electric vehicles spark trouble
Yeah, I don't understand how spending the same (or more) on a car as they would for their housing makes any sense. It was the first thing I noticed when I moved here, it's just ludicrous. -

Pattaya cracks down on businesses illegally blocking public roads and parking spaces
Mayor Poramet Ngampichet and Pattaya City Councillor Anupong Putthanawarat commend Pattaya municipal officers for removing cones, chairs, and metal barriers illegally placed by businesses to block parking spaces and public roadways and spaces. PATTAYA, Thailand – Municipal officers have been actively removing cones, chairs, metal barriers, and other items placed by businesses to block parking spaces and claim sections of public streets as private property. Their efforts have caught the attention of Pattaya City Councillor Anupong Putthanawarat, who presented a video clip commending the officers’ work in removing these encroachments at the recent Pattaya City Council meeting. “This practice has caused some businesses to believe that the streets in front of their establishments are part of their property,” said Anupong. He emphasized that the efforts of the municipal officers to reclaim public roadways have helped address these misconceptions. “Their work is in line with Mayor Poramet’s policy to organize the city for the benefit of both residents and tourists,” he added. Mayor Poramet Ngampichet expressed his gratitude for Anupong’s support and extended his appreciation to the municipal officers and the special operations staff. “I am proud of the team’s dedication in reclaiming public spaces, even though enforcing regulations in a city as diverse as Pattaya is challenging,” he said. “We have residents and visitors from many regions and countries, which complicates our regulatory efforts.” By Pattaya Mail Source: Pattaya Mail -- 2024-09-30 -

Baht strength - How long?
When I see it correctly, the currency exchange change is < 10%. Obviously 10% is significant, but is it lifestyle changing? If someone lived with 50k a month and now he has only 45k, will that make a substantial difference? Or 100k a month and then suddenly only 90k a month? Do many people live so near on the edge that 10% is lifestyle changing?
