A CRACKDOWN by Immigration police in northeastern Buriram province during March 27-April 10 led to six foreigners being rounded up for overstaying their visa, Naewna newspaper said Tuesday (Apr. 11).

Acting on the orders of Pol.Maj.Gen. Phanthana Nuchanart, deputy chief of the Immigration Bureau, to prevent and suppress crime during Songkran festival, Pol. Maj. Gen. Ketchakat Nilpradap, head of Immigration Division 4, led his team in mounting raids to round up foreign suspects.

Six foreigners were detained for overstaying their visa with two of them being fined, one was arrested for working without a permit, four were held for illegal entry and 10 others on online gambling, carrying firearms and narcotics charges.

I know many foreigners who gamble online, it's not illegal, if the site is registered outside Thailand.

Some were only fined for overstay?

It said they were all detained, and didn't mention any being released after imposing a fine.  Perhaps they're still getting deported.

Sorry, but that is nonsense. Do not confuse the BIB with Immigration police.

The legality of overstay is crystal clear.

Quite the mixed bag.

I wonder if the employer of the illegal worker without a permit was also tracked down and arrested?

where they Russians?

No, Russians do not live in Buriram normally ???? 99% of them live in Pattaya, Phuket, Samui. Some of them live in Bangkok as well.

Good. No excuse for overstaying.

I would disagree. A few days or a week is easily missed however when you get into 3 or 4 figures a different story and they are the ones that should be reported. Using foreigners as a score card is despicable.

If you had ever had dealings with the immigration police you would not have made that dumb comment.

No, if they were russians they would be called so. As all other nations. If chinese they are called foreigners. The chinese  object to being named as wrong doers

as that would identify maoists as being capable of doing something wrong.....and we all know that is impossible in a socially ulterior system.

Take a walk along Sukhumvit road near Nana. A lot of West African chaps selling things that are not exactly legal. Wonder if they have work permits? Or visas!! Or would that be to easy for immigration? ????

Despite the picture in the OP my guess is that most if not all will be Asians from other countries, Cambodia, China and Laos mainly. The chances that anyone from Akron or Burnley was caught up in this is remote, that said, has anyone heard from @Transam this morning. ????

Are you suggesting the Immigration Police as opposed to the BIB are not corrupt?

Gambling sites outside of Thailand block you once they know you live in Thailand. So obviously illegal

I believe the bridge arrest was not the actual police but the city inspectors, similar to the ones who ticket you in Bangkok for butts on the sidewalk. I may be wrong but read that a while back on some forum.

I have been in Buriram 48 hours and I would literally shoot myself in the d@#k before even thinking of overstaying here.

Those are the plastic police known as 'tessakit' but are similar to PCSOs in the UK.
