As a Finnish person, I don't doubt the person cursing the ground under his feet, but whether that is cause for violence - I'd go with a hard no - no matter how many words he uttered.

I haven't met a Thai yet that didn't understand 'buffalo' or '<deleted>*k You'. They even understand body language and remember you were drunk and abusive in the past.

There's always two sides of each coin. If people act normal, this would never happen in Thailand. Never.

So, I believe the shop owner to a certain extent.

However, when chaos erupted, the guy didn't broke his jaw falling down.

More likely he was beaten by a group of drunken Thais, "celebrating" Songkran. 

He managed to fly back to Finland quickly, so he's not as stupid as he acted. Karma is a bitch. 

The name of article, ridiculous. Also the content, compared to the linked story.

Seems the Finnish guy had an attitude problem, according one story.

Other story, the Finnish guy is an "angel"

Im more willing to believe the first story, but could be wrong.

Violence maybe be wrong , but people need to realise if they start for vociferously abuse people , when alcohol has been consumed and you are in the Countryside and you cannot speak the same language , the people that you abuse are quite likely to resort to violence

wow you sure seem to know a lot about exactly what happened...if you ever bother to read the op there are two versions of the story told...one by the finns wife and another by the shop owner....let me guess the guys wife version is going to be supportive of husband especially when trying to get a pay out....a lynching? You must have read a different version that the OP posted..... bottom line is IF the finn would have left when asked to leave and not come back looking for trouble that would have been the end of it....if you go looking for trouble you are likely to find it even in Thailand where the vast overwhelming majority of Thais are friendly people and are unlikely to bother any farang who behaves themselves.
