Young men who regularly smoke marijuana may have an increased risk of developing schizophrenia. This is according to a new Danish study.

Schizophrenia cases among men in the ages 21 to 30 could have been prevented by up to 30% without persistent use of marijuana, medically called “cannabis use disorder” (CUD). This is according to findings published by Danish scientists on May 4. The study is based on data from nearly 6 million people in Denmark.

3 out of 10 marijuana users have CUD

“Although CUD is not responsible for most schizophrenia cases in Denmark, it appears to contribute to a non-negligible and steadily increasing proportion over the past five decades,” the researchers concluded.

3 out of 10 marijuana users have CUD, according to the Center for Disease Control.

"May have?" "Could have?" "Appears?" This must be some sort of new definition of a scientific 'study.'

  • There ain't any "appears" in a proper scientific study.

  • Smoked it for 20 years. Never effected me that way. Oh yes it did, stop kidding yourself. What do you know about it ? I was the one smoking . You were always on the bottle. I resent that remark.

Interesting turn of phrase. Sounds "Science-y" to me, so I'll believe it.

And it opens the door to "Fill in the blank User Disorder".

"Idiot clicking on another cannabis article" User Disorder. I suffer from this.

Look I get these cannabis articles get clicks, but maybe get creative? For every one hundred anti-cannabis articles maybe link to one that is balanced, or God forbid, pro cannabis.

Great idea......maybe base it on the "Use Lovely Alcohol in Moderation" programme .......that's worked really well.

By the way, you realise that you appear to be acknowledging that cannabis use may have problems associated with it?

Is that wise.......here?

And it turns women into raging nymphomaniacs losing all control.  For heavens sake have we gone back 50 years!

You can abuse anything.

You can abuse milk.

Cannabis carries much less risk than alcohol.

Keep it legal.

Weed actually did just that to my first wife. She was so horny after a smoke, she could finish just by humping my leg.

Do I have to be high to understand these sentences?

BTW, calling fellow members "hard core drug users" is probably against forum rules.

Nope, just the opposite I should think.

I didn't call any members by name, but again, it's might be obvious why you missed that detail ????

Blimey, now the puffers will be out in force on here, saying it's not so........................????

But at least I now have ammunition to prove them wrong............

Well I'm completely sober, and I don't udnerstand what your sentences were meant to convey?

Can you expand on your thoughts?

For example, in your first statement, who is saying "Covid is a hoax"?, And who is answering? Some, many, all AN hard core drug users?

12 minutes ago, BenStark said:

Yes, I'll give you that. But it's not civil to imply some/any members are hard core drug users.

Abuse. maybe if you define it. Use? That's ok, right?

Obviously, anything that is used to much leads often to abuse, and is for the majority of people a negative thing. I say majority of people, not all people. I smoke weed almost daily since 15 years and run my business without issue, for me it is the alternative to using ritalin, yet I sometimes stop for up to a week, to reset myself.

And, other than your opinion, can you help us understand how Cannabis is a magnifying glass? And does it also strengthen any positive thing?

This is not my opinion, this is a fact. If you understand how a magnifying glass works, you understood already. If you have things on your mind, like perhaps a 2 day overstay, and you smoke weed, it is likely you think about this even more + get paranoid.

If you have nothing on your mind, you likely enjoy your high, depending on the strain you have, being just relaxed, chill, creative or lazy. If you are depressed and smoke, likely you get more depressed, maybe not in the high, but certainly later on when sober, if not keep to smoke (aka abuse situation).

This entire study in the post is nothing new, it was known in Netherlands for decades, same with examples like the ones above. But silly people, like many here, likely will either feel attacked, or support baseless things.

When put in perspective it is more or less like deadly variant of covid, in terms of the chance you would develop schizophrenia by smoking weed when perfectly healthy and normal before.

OK, when you put it like that, sure. I guess. But I can say you're wrong, followed by "that's a fact".

Does everything work like a magnifying glass? Or just cannabis?

Sorry, but this is just vague generalization, perhaps representative of your experiences. To say that it represents everyone's experience is flawed.

No one is saying Cannabis use is without risk.

Cannabis abuse needs to be defined.

The study in the OP appears to be a less than rigorous, peer reviewed, published scientifc study.

uhhhh neither did he. he gave the same general label you originally used.

Cannabis abuse is already long defined, because it is new here or in the USA does not mean it is new to us in Netherlands. Aside of that we use and produce a lot of other drugs there freely, so you can be pretty fk sure that we know our stuff there.

Do your own research if you wanna know more, not gonna waste on you. And obviously nobody says cannabis is not without risk, the person who did is a fool, same that you defend something while clearly not knowing but doubting others.

To even dare and claim cannabis is all good, is utter stupid too, I say this as a daily smoker. Doesn't mean it is a bad thing, or that it can't be legal. If the world should work like that, we can start with banning half of all grocery stores and their sugar drugs.

OK, so based on some vague criteria you, and all Dutch people, are a self-declared drugs expert.

So when pressed you revert to this defense. Noted.

Like most substance use, including alcohol it's not the substance but the dose.
