Judge Aileen Cannon has set a date for the trial in the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump.

The Trump-appointed judge has signed a court order listing the trial as starting on 14 August of this year in Fort Pierce, Florida.

 

 

The news comes the morning after the former president denied that he ever possessed a secret document about attacking Iran despite the fact a recording exists that had him discussing a document he kept from his presidency.

Mr Trump spoke in an interview with Fox News anchor Bret Baier at his property in Bedminster, New Jersey less than a week after he pleaded not guilty to 37 charges in a federal court in Miami at his arraignment.

A federal grand jury had indicted him for allegedly willfully mishandling classified documents, obstruction of justice and making false statements.

The former president was also confronted by Baier over his insistence that he won the 2020 election — which he did not, as the Fox News host made clear in a testy exchange.

 

Voters may be growing sick of Mr Trump as well. In a newpoll, voters were most likely to describe Donald Trump in one word: a “criminal”.

I couldn't watch that creep for more than a minute or two but I've seen snippets over and over in the news. My biggest takeaway was also how he looks like a cornered rat. Goin' down like the Titanic. He is his own worst enemy, he just can't keep his lying trap shut. Every time you think he can't get in the hole any deeper, he pulls a new shovel out of his pocket.

I DID enjoy the section where Bret just plain smacked him in the face for denying he lost the election. Mwuhahaha!

Well that interview went about as well as a train derailing after hitting a dumpster on fire, then being overwhelmed by a volcano erupting.

 

I guess Boris Epshteyn is his closest advisor, especially on legal matters, so things will continue to get worse for trump.

 

It sounds like he is alone, with few of the adoring sycophants that he finds solace with. And no steadying hand of Ivanka or Jared.

 

The end will be sad, not unlike his consigliere Roy Cohn, or Cohn's most celebrated client.

Not televising the trial would be a hit on free speech. The public have a right to know the full facts of this matter as it is decidedly in the public interest.

Also from the same interview, Trump tying himself up in knots over saying he would pardon Alice Johnson over drug offences but then being confronted by Bret that under Trump's new proposals she would be executed!

It seems to be very difficult for some to admit that they got conned for years.  Whether too proud, too stupid, too ignorant, too stubborn to accept reality or just plain delusional. 

 

There are still millions who think he won the 2020 election not that they have a shred of evidence and in spite of 60 court cases tossed, recount after recount by mostly republican officials.  No rational person could possibly believe that if there was any  evidence of significant voter fraud that it would not have long ago been brought to light....yet they still cling to the BIG LIE because Trump told them so.  If that is not delusional then I frankly don't know what else to call it.
