I received a reply today from the CAB, and I have basically been told that I will only be entitled to £56 a week, and advised that the council would not be able to offer me any accommodation, because even the shelter accommodation is full. They advised me to find covered shelter outside, preferably among a group of other homeless people. 

 

The only good news is that a local gp is obliged to prescribe any necessary medication, free of charge. 

 

Of course, I will also be entitled to free medical emergency healthcare. 

 

I am certainly not looking forward to my impending doom!

 

65 years old and sleeping rough in the streets in the UK does not appeal to me!

 

I guess my life is almost over?

 

And all because of Pacific Prime health insurance not paying for my heart operation, for the same reason as I read from another person on here, and that was accidentally not ticking 1 box on the questionnaire about an undiagnosed mental health issue. 

 

My heart condition was obviously not related to a mental health issue.

 

Anyway. 

 

I am passing on this information, quoting the direct reply from the CAB, and using their online calculator to assess my entitlement. 

 

£50 a week is not a lot to live on in the UK!

 

My options?

 

Basically none. 

 

I live on the ground floor of the condo I stay in, so throwing myself off the balcony is not an option. 

 

Yes, it has come to that, seriously considering suicide.

Unfortunately it very much is and the latest costs released this week show it's costing 30 million a day just in Hotel fees for illegal immigrants, or they would have been. As we pick them up and escort them in the are classed as 'passengers'.

I had a relative that was non religious that went through the AA process. He said the prayers did help, even though he did not believe in God. Don’t get your panties in a pinch about wording. It’s just calling on assistance in whatever way you want that to be, just like your doing posting here.

I am in a similar situation.
I asked for a "temporarly" housing until I can find something that suits me, and the response was that my pension was higher than the minimum income and thus I needed to rent something myself.
No word about the other requirements when repatriating to my own home country.
I did a search on available houses/apartments and the cheapest I could find  was about 750 Eur/month + common expenses.
Adding the costs of electricity/gas/heating/water/etc. this would end on about 1,000 month and leave with peanuts to survive.

Also, when repatriating, I would habe no car anymore and would be left on public transport for everything I would need.
Public transport in my home country is a mess and calling a taxi is very expensive, which would leave me with huge problems to continue living in my country.
Far behind the life style I have now in Thailand.
Not easy for citizens who want to repatriate to their own country.
When I see how illegal immigrants are offered a stay in a hotel for free and given 1,600 EUR pocket monet every month makes my blood boil.

If that’s really true. Many of the conservatives in my country complain about the welfare system food stamps, poor people getting all kinds of free benefits, blah blah blah.

 

The reality is those complaining people have never been poor and don’t understand the realities of the welfare system, how hard it is to beat the system and get benefits, it’s not all that easy…

 

The Uk free housing thing sounds like this kind of complaining to me, though I can’t say for sure as I’m not from the Uk.

I am not an UK national, but a Belgian national.
I can show you the emails that I had with the Belgian authorities, proofing everything I said, but that would be against the rules of ASEANNOW, because they are written in Dutch.
Anyhow, it would be against the law to copy the emails here.
About the housing in Belgium (and I think that would be similar to the UK) do a simple search on houses/apartments for renting and you will see it for yourself.
When I left Belgium and settled in thailand, I sold my house in Belgium for about 25,000 Eur.
The cheapest house you can buy now starts at 250,000 Eur.
Crazy but TRUE.

You need mid to long term strategy in order to come back to Thailand and enjoy life with an adequate financial buffer. Do you have any marketable skills? I've read the unemployment in UK is very low now. The best is to find a job with a local employer, which can be also done remotely from Thailand.

I was a few years ago in Belgium for a surgery aand I noticed the same as you.
Hugely obese people on mobile scooters, workers doing everything with machines or some utils to make the workload easier, etc.
I could hardly see anybody handling a  shovel on the road works.
All was done by "Bobcat" and other mechanic tools.
The cartoon where 20 people are discussing how to do the work and 1 man doing the real work comes to mind.
The reality of this is that the people in the Western countries can afford and have the luxury to buy these devices which makes them lazier and fat due to the lack of exercise.

Current figures are  approx £6 million per day

OP could always just go live at a wat, free room & board for faking to be a member, till retirement kicks in.  Just save enough of current funds for flight home and max Imm overstay fine.  If caught overstaying, then free room & board again, till deported, buying that same ticket home.

I've had a med oops now & then, one just last year, but not dumb enough not to have a comfy oops fund.

 

We are talking about (supposedly) adult, responsible people.  Seriously, the moment his ins co denied his claim, he should have quit being an alky, and started saving that money.  He pension isn't really that far away, but easy to drink up your savings when an alky.  Especially if you don't drink at home. 

 

An alky can easily spend 500-2000 baht a day, depending what & where he, she or it drinks.  I could easily live on 500 baht a day if I had to, all in.

 

No excuse for adults, choosing to live in a foreign country, should be running out of money.  That he has no family or friends that would be willing to help, well .... nuff said.

 

After heart operation, he continues to be an alky.  Kind of sums it up.

Although UK State pensions are not taxed [they are below the tax threshold] the Government adds them to any private/forces etc. pensions you have.  This usually takes you over the tax threshold [set at £12,570 for the 23/24 tax year].

 

Then you do start paying tax on the total amount.  Bit of a con really saying State pensions are 'tax free' but UK tax goes on 'overall' income so they are included in the total.

I found it difficult to leave Pattaya it's like being paralyzed, the longer you stay the more you learn about its dark secrets .but I found the strength to leave and closed my room. I took my Yamaha spark which I brought new in Chiang mai years earlier,and headed to rayong. a interesting journey north up through chantaburi. Feeling great relief I had finally left Pattaya.
