'He introduced the requirement to keep 400k year 'round for retirement extension, changing the deal on retirement extension holders and punishing every retiree who WASN'T using an agent and seemingly forcing some to leave.'

400k year 'round for retirement extension AS I MENTIONED IN MY POST.

Silly nit picking point. Yes, TM30 is in the 1979 act but it seems it hadn't been enforced since then because it was regarded as unnecessary. He ENFORCED it. SO: He inflicted the TM30 on us.

Let's hope for the sake of some AN members that an IQ test isn't amongst BJ's proposals for extensions.

I think you're confused.

You do not need to keep 400k in the bank all year. You only need it in the bank for 2 months. Requiring retirees who wish to have the 10 year visa (O-A) to have health insurance - is this what you are referring to by 'changing the deal?' Everyone should have health insurance in a foreign country, especially if you're old!

Just speculating here, but perhaps if those people who are 'being forced' to use agents could pass an IQ test, they might have the intelligence to read the AseanNow visa help section... Other retirees seem to have no problems completing the correct paperwork, so I wonder why you have this issue?

TM30 has been around since 1979. When I first arrived here in 2014, I filled one in, and have been doing so each and every time I re-enter Thailand. In fact, TM30 requirements have been made easier - you no longer need to report a change of address each and every time you move.

edit:

Oh, and the correct way to write year 'round is: year-round.

He don't care about us, so why care about him.

Thailand runs on threats, I get you,  and all that. :coffee1:

Why would he care about you ?

yeah, sorry, I'm wrong about the financial requirements! Everything else I stand by though.

'In fact, TM30 requirements have been made easier - you no longer need to report a change of address each and every time you move.'

Please explain how you can move without the need to file a new TM30? It exists specifically to register arrival at an address or a change of address.

Perhaps this is poor English on your part and you don't mean move as in move house i.e. change address? Were you perhaps referring to them dropping the need to file a TM28 if you were out of your province for more than 24 hours or were you somehow referring to there being no need to file a new TM30 when returning from abroad to the same address if you left on a Non Immigrant visa extension with a re entry permit?

I admit I am a trifle confused (by what you have written).

"every" message?  - or are you wrong again?

Let's face it the tone of your original post replying to mine was not exactly respectful disagreement/correction, was it? - your post had a real attitude and that is why I replied as I did. If you adopt a certain tone with people you get it back. Most of us learn that in the school playground.

I have no issue with people respectfully/politely pointing out I am wrong if I am.

Note; in this case you were wrong and I was right though.

I disagree that it had 'attitude'.

It certainly didn't contain anything offensive, unlike your comments about IQ tests and poor use of English.  Even now, you can't help yourself... most people learn that in the school playground.

Nevertheless, I was wrong about the financial requirements. You were right. You were wrong about the TM30 (and I was wrong about not reporting). We all make mistakes.

You think he makes the rules ??? That’s up to the government, as all laws are.

No he does not.

But laws , rules, and regulation are interpreted by individuals in high positions as they see fit. across the board in Thailand.

That's one of the reasons that immigration offices operate with different requirements. for Extensions, visas, tm-30, Resident certs and so on.

But if joker boy is your go to guy.

up to you,  as they say. :bah:

Not my favorite immigration guy, when he was in that job.

I think he just alienated us even more,  from the general public.

He gave the agent extensions the tick of approval by default, so job well done!

What you mean, he encouraged  more corruption by his officers.

in cahoots with agents.

He also inflicted the TM30 on us, but I am sure you will say both are a good idea and you have no problem with either as a "good" farang. He also stated that he will submit a recommendation for the "too easy" retirement extension to be tightened up, but i am sure you will say that is good because it will keep the riff raff out, leaving just the "good" farangs.

I will just say, that in some cases rules are necessary.

Don't bother arguing with Mike. He tried telling me that Big Joke was the national police chief just before the election, and that I should go do my own research.

When I pointed out that BJ has never been the national police chief, he is the deputy, he tried deflecting saying 'well, he's still at the top of the pyramid' rather than admitting he was wrong. How can one be at the top, when you are being considered for promotion to the top?

Mike has no class, and no knowledge of anything in Thailand.

Yeah, I already know he like to act as a superior in this forum, but I just find it too fun and too easy to shoot some holes in his already perforated shield

What if the accusers, slanderers and critics are found to be right and truthful in said court of law?

Then what....?

He wasn't even in the job for a year, he was immigration chief for 7 months!

How much damage can one do in slow moving Thailand? Things take forever to change in this country, yet apparently Big Joke was the worst of the worst, especially for retirees - if you believe the comments that is. I'm on a Non-O, but mine is based on marriage, so I haven't noticed any major changes.

Face facts he is a general in a corrupt organised mafia gang and nobody climbs that pole if they are clean and law abiding, they are all dirty, they are all corrupt from top to bottom....

Yep. Well said. The entire country is filthy with corruption from the top to the bottom and every Thai person knows this. Those who profit from it love it and those who suffer from it hate it. Anyone in Thailand who has the position and power to be corrupt is corrupt.

Corruption. Court of Law. Same bed IMO. Who has the most money and power behind them will win. Right and wrong is not part of it.

You don't know what you are talking about.....the comment was relating to retirement extensions. 400k all year round (800k for part of it)  is one of the options for  retirement extension qualification. Alternatives being 65,000 transferred every month, combination, or Embassy letter if you can get it.

Yes, I already said I was wrong about that... I confused my non-o based on marriage with another type of Non-O.

No problem.....marriage extensions are quite different to the regular Non-Imm-O based retirement ones.
