if the restaurant owner has family back in Thailand, they could be in some sort of hot soup as well as their assets or property.

Why?  What has his family and the security of their assets got to do with this?

she's Thai ....  of course she'll lodge a complaint,

You're an AN poster, of course you can't be expected to comment rationally with the knowledge that she has specifically stated that she will not be taking any action against him.

The Thai man in Greenland has every right to disagree / object to her stance, and to tell her so.

There was an incident in Greenland, also?  Where was that reported?

So, what does the government has to do with private business? Thai senators need to understand that they are abroad and not in Thailand

The senator in question is not involved in the proposed government complaint, she has specifically stated that.

If the junta appointed senate has such extensive extraterritorial power,  why haven’t they used it to bring Boss back to face justice for a more serious crime? They could still get Yingluck too.

They're only making a complaint, (not demanding his extradition!) that doesn't take any extraterritorial power.  You think that just sending a letter of complaint to wherever Vorayuth and Yingluck are would have any effect?

What has a Thai restaurant owner throwing a Thai out of his restaurant got to do with the Icelandic government? And what does the Thai government expect that government to do (apart from laugh, that is). Expel him? Idiotic.

Just a thought. Under diplomatic pressure, the Icelandic Government could possibly revoke the Thai owner's visa and deport him back to Thailand!

I wonder what diplomatic pressure that might be? The mind boggles.

The title of the Complaint will be,

"Do you Know Who We Are?"

Honestly, do these Senators not realize how silly, petty and idiotic they look when they override the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and lodge a complaint about a minor incident?

I'm surprised the Ultra-Nationalists aren't protesting at the Icelandic Consulate on Soi Convent.

All for what, some incompetent scientist who shirked her responsibilities as Senator to jet off to Iceland.

Yes, I know she has many excuses.

If anything, these Clowns should be reprimanding her for being absent.

"the committee plans to send the complaint document to Iceland, urging the government to acknowledge the inappropriate actions of its residents."

Iceland is a free country - I'm pretty sure they don't discipline their citizens just because a foreign official thinks they've been insufficiently deferential.

"Additionally, the committee intends to pursue legal action against the restaurant owner under Thai law, regardless of whether Porntip chooses to pursue legal remedies."

So Thailand now has extraterritorial jurisdiction over rudeness in European restaurants? Fascinating. Perhaps they can take the case to the International Court of Justice in The Hague while they're at it.

As wise as I know you are...let's not try to put words into another governments mouth.

Please wait to hear from the Government of Iceland.

Being refused service in a restaurant in Iceland = serious issue, action taken through the Thai courts.

Conviction for smuggling heroin into Australia = not recognised under Thai law.

This nonsense continually shows how backward and laughable this place really is.

And will always be forever more...

The fact that they honestly beleive lodging a complaint and airing this out further on the world stage is the way forward is just another indicator of how out of touch they are.

Wouldn't surprise me to see them go after this guy's family in Thailand as they have before when the subject exceeds the reach of their authority. See the journalists in exile, both Thai and foreign, for prominent examples.

Why don’t you say what you really feel, Mike? ????

He usually does.  And quite well mostly.

I usually just think "Ditto"

If this story is true, that one or more Thai government officials, actually talked about sending a complaint to Iceland, it says it all about whats wrong with Thailand and the way they raise children to bow down to certain people with status and certain DNA.

I'm reminded of a date I had with a gal in BKK who was very high up in the Dept of Health.  She drove a modest car but yiu could tell she expected the red carpet everywhere she went in BKK. Early in our date she took me to show me off or get approval from her brother who had a nice single story house with a decent yard all around. It deep in the heart of BKK.  It was a cool guy, a doctor i recall and had a little cheap quick set up tent in his living room as he just got it and planned to go camping soon. She was highly educated.  At dinner she was so demanding of at least 2 servers that it was embarrassing .  She was speaking loudly and had servers running and bowing to her.  First and last date.

Was her brother with you at dinner, if he was, was he loitering with 'in tent'?

Don't see you're point. The bloke wanted her out because of her treachory to the Thai people and Thailand. She was respected but no longer. She had her chance to go against the Senate but she abstained. Puts her in with the other non-elected, trough feeding mongrels. She's made her bed as have many others. Sooner or later those beds will be burning.

'......advising the owner to maintain a separation between his political views and personal life'.

Of course, that's how you would like it to be..., right, Pornthip. Along with the other senators with their pieces of silver long deposited it their fat bank accounts. Oh, dear, this so unThai......to question the moral superiority of the Thai elite! Why should you be blamed for your sins in this 'personal' context?

Pornthip, since your elite-puppy Suthep led the (your) elite coup against Yingluck's govt in 2014.........it became, for me anyway.....ALL personal. If I, as a falang, feel that, why shouldn't a Thai restaurant owner, an actual Thai.....wherever in the world.......feel what I feel....x10 ?

Own it. Own your complicity in this shambles, you fake 'Kon dee'.

Sure, why do you not think I see that point???? I just questioned how a complaint from a foreign government can in any way affect a privately owned restaurant

Yep. And to all your other cronnie, corrupt senators.

This is a great revolutionary/demonstration catch cry. I would add another "you are corrupt" and another "get out".

“Go! Go! Get out of here! Get the hell out of here! You are corrupt! You are corrupt! Get out! Get out! Get out of here!

Read this 3 times and I bet it sticks. ????

What is not being mentioned is the allegation that was around in Thai social media before Srettha was voted in that Thaksin was involved in bargaining the price of votes for Srettha. Numbers like 20 mil were being bandied around. Perhaps these rumours helped get Ari fired up against the senators in general, as there no specific corruption allegations against Pornthip. However she retired under a cloud regarding her support for the fake bomb detectors that she ordered for her department and also endorsed the army’s much larger purchase of them under Prayut’s watch. Hard to believe that she, as a scientist, had found any professional reasons to endorse the bomb detectors which were just lumps of plastic with nothing in them.

it seems odd that the 14 million voters whose votes got dissed by the senate are being so silent. If this were Kenya or somewhere like that, there would be hundreds of folk dead in the streets by now. Trumps Proud boys would be out at the barricades in their most fashionable tactical gear ARs dangling off their necks. Lucky for us that things haven’t boiled over like that. Perhaps the orange masses are keeping dry powder for the dissolution of MFP and imprisonment of Pita. It has usually taken a catalyst of that order to stoke things up enough to bubble over like the dissolution of FF and the banning of Thanathorn on allegedly Trumped up charges. For the red shirts in 2010 the catalyst was the confiscation of Thaksin’s 36 billion by the court.
