Pattaya — For over 15 years, the “Pattaya Marina Project”, with a spent budget of over 300 million baht, has never been put to use. Left behind are remnants of the construction materials, which highlighted the wastefulness of tax money.

The Marina project, initially designed by Tesco Company but later constructed by a joint venture named Ping, began in 2008 with the aim of accommodating 300 tourist boats. It is located next to Bali Hai Pier near the lighthouse area.

This ambitious project encompassed a parking and docking facility, with a total cost of a staggering 733 million baht. However, despite the significant investment, the project missed its 2013 completion deadline and has never fully functioned.

According to reports, the city of Pattaya is still grappling with legal proceedings against the project’s designer after operators of over 1,000 speedboats filed a complaint against the company after finding that the project’s hydraulic system was unable to support boat parking.

in this kind of case, the loser(i.e. the city of pattaya) is almost always the plaintiff, while those who embezzled the money and the lawyers line their pockets

Well someone came out about 299 million baht richer.

Matches the eyesore of the unfinished hotel...

300 miliion wasted... I find that very doubtful...

Seems that some officials suddenly have the latest BMW's or Benz's in front of their new 3 storey houses ?

... That is what they paid 300 million for ?

I always imagined a "Marina " to look a little different ...

Lets see here.....

The Marina..................................Disaster

Waterfront condo....................Disaster

The undergrond parking......Disaster

The beach walkway................Disaster

The Stadium................................Disaster

The park naklua seafood.  ...Disaster

Meanwhile, just to show this is not confined to Pattaya, over the water

south of Hua Hin town at Pak Nam Pran is a marina, albeit with moorings but well under-utilised and even an overgrown airport although the latter was a failed private enterprise.

I would guess maybe only 10-20% of the budget of any construction prodject is spent on the prodject.......The rest is in someones pocket...

Looks world class to me some rocks and speedboats on the launch pads the pontoon is ready for super yachts and floats nicely on the floaters ????

So strange. I've been down there over the years. The vendor who got the contract to put in those "fancy" haul out devices in each slip made out like bandits... but those haul out devices were just total junk! How long did they last? 5 years? y the end there were a couple guys with some make shift air pump using the remaining functioning haul out cradles to service "customers" Walking down there was like navigating a maze of danger..finally the slips and devices all just crumbled apart leaving a disgusting eye sore of junk strewn everywhere and probably a minor environmental disaster too boot.

Everything they touch is a complete disaster.

The problem starts as soon as they get a whiff of the money.

They treat all funds as their own personal bank account then work from there.

Yes. When in town I often walk past there to the lighthouse and back. Nothing of any use to tourist boats in that area. The soi dogs are the biggest presence.

They keep electing the same administration. They are very efficient at election campaigning.

Now that is one of the reasons they want to tax longstayers in Thailand. More money for new projects...

Water treatment plant Jomtien that they spent literally billions on - as far as I remember that lies broken and unused.

We do seem to  just cycle between the members of the same family... did they find the ex-mayor yet who did a runner to Cambodia?

You missed the parking building that destroyed the Bali Hi park, which was always a bad idea.

Also the beach "reclamation" which washes away every time it rains.

I'm not familiar with the "underground" parking, and google is of no help.

That used to be a lovely walk along to the lighthouse restaurant, then they let the speedboats park there and they ruined it.

Have not been to that area for some time.. but there also seems to be a lot of boats parked out on the water these days in Pattaya bay. Something they said would be kept limited.

That marina was so rusty 10 years ago that I'm surprised it still exists.

It was a floating train wreck from the start. And yes that used to be a nice walk out to the  lighthouse. But like Mr meeseeks said everything they touch turns to a sh*tshow.
