If Thailand refused you, where would you live? And why?

Why would Thailand refuse a Hansum Man?

But, if they were that shortsighted, I would slip to Vietnam.

They might double tax people, who'd be happy with that. I might try Philippines for part of the year

Maybe Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I was there a few times for a few days in general I felt comfortable. Would I like to live there for months or years? I don't know. But I would give it a try.

Vietnam. Cheap, beautiful, modern enough, nice people, easy visa policy...

  • Been in Portugal 4 years after 17 years in Thailand. Cost of living? Very similar. Property more expensive obvs. Food shopping mostly same. Beer less than half price. Wine ridiculous. Fuel costs

Philippines or Vietnam... similar in many ways to Thailand,

Easier visa regulations and similar climate.

🇻🇳 Vietnam, by far the friendliest people, most beautiful women and easy visa, or Philippines!

I couldn't cope with the food ... so I only lasted a few days... on a flight back to Thailand ...wrong of me of course but I just could not believe how hard it was to get decent food at a reasonable price . Not junk food , that's easy and cheap.

Back to my cabin in the Rocky Mountains with the million dollar view.

Honestly ? Back in the UK, I still own my house in my lifelong riverside town so it would be a no brainer. I'm really only in Thailand as I cannot bring the wife to the UK for about 6-7 years (well, I could go sooner but I do not want to sell).

You don't buy a mobile home to live in it if you like to live in it, you buy a caravan, a mobile home is for traveling as the name suggests.

You can then move the mobile home if the owner of the land asks you too much rent, and normally you keep it in the same place for many years and even sell it like a normal house.

This way of life is completely normal in Australia

I'm thinking Iran. Convert to Islam and Bob's your uncle. Beautiful women to look at, well their eyes anyway. If you play your cards right you can live there for free at Evin Prison.

Cambodia is the obvious choice.  Many have already re-located.

One of the great benefits of living in LoS (or indeed ANYwhere in Asia) is that if, like me, you don't spika de Asian, you don't have to hear people talking WOKE as they do in the Anglosphere.

Alas, this benefit is too easily cancelled out in these unsocial media days by simply going to an Angloshere media website to learn the latest news.

But to answer the thread question: Defo Spain (except for June to August).  Cheap fruit and wine and wonderful cities and trains (FAST trains) to whisk you between cities.   Seville or anywhere down south.

#2 would be Penang, Malaysia, but the local religion is not exactly hospitable to alcohol.

I've lived in Asia for 50 years.

I'd love to live in an English proper speaking country.  Although I'm a Brit aside from 7 years of boarding school I've never lived there (and boarding school really doesn't count as back then we were barely let out!)

So if money was no object, I'd probably choose somewhere in the UK.

My Russian GF studied in Dublin and she'd like to live in Ireland or England (she has family in London) so I'm trying to figure out if sometime in the next 4-5 years we might be able to do that.

I just want to be somewhere that we don't have language issues, where I feel that living there is more secure (no visa issues), where I can own and operate businesses without all the stupid restrictions we have here, where I can buy and own land/property and know that it can be passed down to my family.

I love living in Bangkok but having been a foreigner all my life (so far) is wearing real thin.

Lived 8 yrs in PI, then left because of their extreme covidiocy. Now 3rd year in Thailand, prolly 2 more and then back to PI. Thailand is cool but I feel more at home (and genuinely 'welcomed') in PI, even with it's less than stellar culinary offerings and rougher infrastructure.

didn't know a mathematical constant was a nice play to live and I used to hate math

I will just go back home to a country where I have rights if these arsholes and their stupid regulations decide to kick me out. After ten years and millions of baht spent still being treated like I'm an illegal begging for an extension of stay is honestly tiring.

am I only the only person that thought Vietnamese people were a little aggressive and  not very friendly? I only visited Hanoi and they weren't pleasant at all. The honking by itself was enough to keep me away from there anyways. Maybe the south is nicer.

Honestly I don't even consider Thai people that friendly, compared to Americans at least. I don't know why they get that reputation honestly. They smile back at you is all I can think of.

Spain is a fantastic option, or Portugal.

I lived in Spain a number of years.  Lots of stuff a lot cheaper than Thailand........now......but that did not used to be the case.  Thailand prices are increasing at an alarming rate.

For sure, if it turns out I am taxable here in Thailand, I will be doing just under six months here, 3 months Vietnam, 3 months PH (or Laos, Cambodia).  I have a long time Thai gf, and need to make it appealing for her also.

Spain would be very desirable for 3 months, but the air fares are a joke at the moment, and it would be cheaper to pay tax here in Thailand..........  🙂

I'm not a retiree and I don't want a car. I'm in Vietnam right now, first time here, it's great. I thought I'd miss Thailand but I really don't. People treat each other way better here and at the end of the day that's what matters to me. Ok, headed out for a banh mi and a cafe sua !

I agree.  I dont think Thais are that great either..........very false smile, no manners, me me me attitude.  But better than UK, so I am ok here in Thailand.

In UK we tend to call those things permanently parked a mobile home for some reason. Caravans are what you drag behind a car.

Easy visa for a long stay? That's not the impression that I have. Please elaborate.

I thought Vietnam's visa policies made it impossible for long stay/retirement. Personally i think only Cambodia offers an option to Thailand.
