THAI Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said today (Nov. 3) that Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had called to inform that 20 out of 23 Thais held hostage by Hamas fighters are safe while a search is underway for two to three other captives, TV Channel 7 said.

Srettha said Anwar had told him that 12 hostages in one group and eight others in another group were being transported to the same place.

Asked by reporters whether the hostages’ families could now rest assured that they are safe, Srettha replied in the affirmative while underscoring that two to three other hostages had still to be found.

Anwar had confirmed that they were safe and would immediately inform us if there is any progress, he added.

Does this mean that these 20 kidnapped Thais are now being held in the same place in a tunnel under a hospital or school to serve as a human shield against Israeli military forces trying to liberate them?

They will only be safe when Israel finally storms the hospital and liberates them. Quite amazing and illogical of Hamas to keep holding Thais hostage, but then again they are nutjob terrorists so logic doesn't apply. Israel seems to be making good progress though, so hopefully it won't be long before they are truly safe.

They will probably view taking Thai hostages as justified, considering the Thai occupation of the four southernmost, Muslim Malay majority provinces.

For the confused, you do know there has been a de facto civil war in the South of Thailand since 2004, labelled as an ‘insurgency’.

Surely you can’t be that dumb or uninformed?

I doubt the Hamas is much invested in this, though.

If you're looking for a grudge it may have something to do with Thais replacing Palestinians as foreign workers in Israel.

No doubt, but they will certainly be aware of what is going on in the South of Thailand.

Even if they are aware of it, they don't care. There wouldn't be any money in it for them. The Hamas leadership is too busy managing their multibillion dollar investments bought with donations from charities, fund raising and contributions from friendly nations.

Did you miss the part where it was the Malaysians that confirmed that the hostages are "safe" (whatever that means)? Hardly sounds like a hostile nation to Thailand...
