Thappasit is really a death trap now, this guy was very careless, I never take my eyes off the road when crossing anywhere

Pedantic, I know, but in the linked article it states that he stepped out from the central island, so any oncoming traffic would be from his left.

Hard to comment without seeing footage.

Doesnt sound like he was at a crossing (as if that makes a difference!) so I see can the blame being on him.

Thailand is not for everyone.

Its got it's quirks and features like all Asian countries.

If you are from the west it's very different here, don't blame Thailand, it's been this way before we came here.

You u must assimilate, have the skill set to cross the roads with all the challenges or go back home.

That could have been why!   For traffic that drives on the left, i.e. it will be approaching pedestrians from their right, it should be "Look right, look left, look right again".

I almost got smudged by a Thai bus.  There was a clearly marked wide crossing near major schools and universities.  I was almost to the end and he just clipped my backpack.  He will do it to the wrong person one day.

Bet I have been here a lot longer than you, It's when you HAVE been here a long time, you know that crossing a very busy road needs total concentration, nothing to do with "assimilate" or "blaming Thailand" lol

I bet you haven't.

If you are complaining about traffic on Theprasit road I reckon its time to go back home, it's always been a death trap.

No crossing there, my guess is elderly falang didn't look properly, outside PTT is a very busy area, worse place to cross

Assume everyone on the roads in Thailand is out to kill you, and you won't be far wrong.

Some people I see in cars or on two wheels are working their mobile phones, which means their attention is divided.

Can't let it go, can you? Telling someone to go home because of traffic is sad, bet you are fun to drink with

The Brits who've washed up in Thailand seem to have neglected to study road crossing safety in their community schools.  In fact, the critical Listen is always missing even from the inevitable lectures from our local ANF ex-Lollipop Men.

OK, here's a modern vid produced by the Transport for London authority.

Unfortunately, electric vehicles are making the "Listen" part less applicable. I am constantly shocked when they sneak up on me.

Is 52 considered elderly now?

It doesn't matter if you can see them or not because they're not going to stop. It's literally law of the jungle with these people.

Why do they need to mention someone's nationality in every story?

Its a competition between nationalities.

Article says he's 52. That might have been "elderly" in Mesopotamia, but it's considered "middle aged" these days.   I thought it was a drunken Richard Harris wearing urban camo whilst dodging cars.

Every day I have farangs step out in front of my scooter, not facing traffic and taking for granted that I will stop. I usually issue a blood curdling "Wilhelm Scream" right into their hairy old ear as I pass a foot away.  Sometimes I wish I was driving my 8000 lb pickup from back home.  That'd knock some sense into them.

The Thai girls should sue the bag off of him, have his benefits cheques garnished and party outside of his room at Nirun.

I spend a fair bit of time on my scooter around Pattaya and both Thais and falangs step out without looking, sometimes i reckon they just look the wrong way, maybe in their country driving is on the right.

A mystery of life is why there isn't more indians involved in accidents, they frequently are walking in the road

Can you HEAR EVs approaching, or those damned electric cycles?

Motorbikes surge out of nowhere, including against the direction of traffic. To be safe you need your head to be replaced by a flight tower radar.

Vehicles in Thailand ACCELERATE whenever they spot a pedestrian. That way it's a sure kill if the pedestrian trips or stumbles.

This is an area where pedestrians cross to the middle of the road while waiting for a clearing to fully cross.  My closest calls when crossing a busy street like Thepprasit Rd is when a car stops to let me cross and then a motorbike in a blind spot comes around the side at high speed.  You have to jump back quickly as motorbikes gun the engine, or they will mow you down.

Lately motorbikes speed up and aim for me as I cross the streets.  Like a sport.

23+ years here and ain't been hit yet.   I do look before I cross the street though.  That uncommon common sense
