Lone Kuwaiti Tourist Fights Off Five Young Teen Robbers in Pattaya

Pattaya —Pattaya police successfully apprehended five teenagers on Monday following their failed attempt to rob a Kuwaiti tourist on Soi Yensabai.

The thwarted robbery occurred at around 3:00 AM on January 22nd, along Soi Yensabai in South Pattaya. Mr. Mobaruk Ali, a 23-year-old tourist from Kuwait, had been in Pattaya for just two weeks when he encountered a group of five teenagers armed with knives.

In a brave act, Mr. Mobaruk resisted the robbery attempt. With the assistance of local residents who intervened, the group of teenagers dispersed and fled the scene. Seizing the opportunity, Mr. Mobaruk used his mobile phone to record a video while chasing after the suspects.

By chance, a police investigation team was patrolling nearby and managed to apprehend one suspect—a 14-year-old Thai teenager. Later, around 8 AM, Pattaya police managed to round up the remaining four suspects, aged between 13 and 15 years old. Due to their ages, the identities of the suspects have been withheld by the police.

I agree, especially when they use weapons as in this case.

That is wrong in so many ways, at that age a sharp strong lesson will work on impressionable minds, a full night in the cells is my thoughts. Instead they may go home and have their phone or bikes taken off them for a day.

They simply learn there are no repercussions.

Why are care proceedings not considered if they are allowed to roam in a gang at 3am?

Also consideration should be given to lowering the age of criminal responsibility to 10 years as in some other countries.

I blame the parents Thailand lacks responsible parenting.  Uneducated parents, they wouldn't know how to raise kids.

Go fine the parents 1000 baht each ...  and send the kids to army camp for 6 months.

I think an automatic enlistment at 18 to the army for 5 years should be a good sentence

Problem with that is they have 4 or so years of trouble making prior......

So do I.  If 6 months and fining the parents doesn't do it, then more drastic measures need to be taken.  Like.......

Assault using a deadly weapon, by anyone, regardless of age, requires the ultmate penalty.

Will be Interesting to know whey have they set up upon this young Kuwaiti guy in particular?

was he wearing an expensive items, did he insulted a Thai person, was he hostile to anyone?...

I was thinking after using weapons like the ones shown, a 3 year stay in juvenile work farm is more fitting.

Unfortunately the parents are probably no better than these kids, I'd jail them for producing these scummy little gits

And will probably be back out on the street tonight.

Correct, this isn't just a petty crime, 5 persons [regardless of age] armed with weapons...

Detention at the very least...

If they can do the crime they can do the time.

Opportunity for what? was he wearing expensive jewellery? was he flashing a fat wads of cash around?...

So what if he was... stupid maybe... but are you advocating blaming the victim... don't be part of the problem.

50/50 they aren't being raised by parents but by grandparents, who are only doing so out of a sense of duty as the parents are elsewhere and can't be bothered. It's the culture here. And when I was in my teens I was never, ever allowed to be out roaming the streets at 3am. It just didn't happen. But then, I wasn't raised in a country where kids do whatever they want and are never disciplined.

As for age of criminal responsibility, what nonsense is that? If they commit a crime then they are criminals and should face the consequences, no matter what age they are. What has age got to do with it? The thugs simply exploit it and know they are untouchable.

In my experience here, the mugging in the OP is a very rare event. The BiB need to get a handle on such things quickly because people can just as easily stay home and get mugged,, no need to travel all the way to Thailand. Perhaps focus a little less on errant foreign pensioners on overstay and pay more attention to the antics of the local population.

Just wanted to know what was the reason/s those youths have attacked the man, not blaming anyone...

I am not surprised by anything in the article: Thai males always hunt in packs; Thai parents have no idea where their kids are at 3am; it comes as no surprise that they were armed.

I am, however, staggered by the quoted sentence above!

Probably not but they were five against one, Thaistyle.

Target for theft, for the very reasons you are pointing out.

while I do respect your comment & opinion,

I still blame the parents,  as even though as we know the kids are handed over to grandma & grandpa to look after, the parents still go and visit when they get off work or holidays come around so they can still be responsible and ensure their kids are not out at 3am ... I am sure they call and talk to the grand parents so tell them what should be happening and what is not allowed etc ....
